Lewis Double Double Propels Hounds Past Mustangs

PORTALES, NM — Alivia Lewis' second double double of the season and a late run lifted the Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team (15-9; LSC 11-6) to a crucial Lone Star Conference win, Thursday night at Greyhound Arena. The Greyhounds defeated Midwestern State (12-11; LSC 9-8), 81-66, to collect their third consecutive home win.

  • Lewis scored with 1:11 left in the third quarter to give Eastern a 55-45 lead
  • Liza Cathcart's layup with 49 seconds left ignited a 12-2 MSU surge which stretched into the fourth quarter
  • Chelsie Kizart completed a fastbreak with 7:13 left in regulation to pull the Mustangs even at 57-all
  • MSU closed that surge with nine straight points to seize the momentum and tie the game
  • Sarina Johnson followed with a free throw and a three-point bucket as the Hounds took the momentum back with six straight points
  • The surge turned into a 24-7 run which included a key three-point bucket from Brandi Gomez
  • Daeshi McCants capped the run with a three-point play to give Eastern an 81-64 lead with 41 seconds left

  • ENMU moved to 11-1 when scoring at least 60 points
  • Eastern's 81 points was a season high
  • In the first meeting with MSU, the Mustangs held a seven-rebound advantage
  • Tonight, the Hounds held a 12-rebound advantage
