SAN ANGELO, TEXAS —
Kaylee Edgemon's 14 point effort highlighted Thursday night's game for the regionally-ranked Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team (16-10; LSC 12-7). The Hounds rallied from a seven point deficit, but dropped a hard-fought 59-56 decision to Angelo State (20-5; LSC 15-5) at the Junell Center.
ENMU entered the game ranked ninth in the South Central Region, while the Rambelles were fourth in the poll, released earlier this week.
The Key Runs
- Trailing 7-3 early in the first quarter, Mikaehla Connor hit two free throws to ignite an 11-3 surge
- Edgemon capped the run with back-to-back jumpers to give ENMU a 13-10 lead
- ASU responded with 12-2 run of its own to seize a 22-15 lead, early in the second quarter
- In the third quarter, ENMU put together a 10-3 run capped by treys from Sarina Johnson and Edgemon to give ENMU a 37-36 lead
- The game saw several lead changes and five tie scores, the last coming on Connor's jumper with 48 second left to tie the game at 56-all
- ASU hit three free throws in the final 19 seconds to pick up the win
In the Numbers
- ENMU held an 11-4 edge in second-chance points and an 11-5 advantage in fastbreak points
- Daeshi McCants finished with 11 points
- Johnson and Shelby Jones had 10 points each
- Jones also had six rebounds and a blocked shot
