Hounds Work Overtime in LSC Win Over #22 Texas A&M-Commerce

Saturday, February 03, 2018

PORTALES, NM — The Eastern New Mexico University men's basketball team (10-12; LSC 5-8) trailed twice in overtime, but took the lead for good on a Lamarquis Thompson trey with 1:03 left in Saturday's Lone Star Conference game at Greyhound Arena. Thompson poured in 15 points, grabbed five rebounds, dished out four assists and had two steals, as the Hounds edged 22nd-ranked Texas A&M-Commerce(17-5; LSC 9-4) 85-81 in overtime.

The contest was sponsored by Roosevelt General Hospital.

Segler Said It
  • "I am so proud of my kid's willingness to compete tonight!" Head Coach Tres Segler said. "They were a true unit, and they bonded together during the adversity to overcome. Once again, we proved we can be a balanced scoring attack, and I am so proud of our kid's unselfishness. Right now they're truly ok with their brothers getting the credit, and they've bought into the collective glory of a team win."
  • "Devin Pullum's charge tonight was a defining moment to me. He took the same charge at Midwestern State, and he didn't get the call. Tonight he had the courage to step up and do it again, and he was rewarded for his resolve."
  • "Zach Parker and Lamarquis Thompson gave us a great offensive punch, but Nick Brown's three point dagger in the corner was as awesome a play as we've had all year."
  • "Shawn Shelton has come up strong again for us, and he gave us a huge defensive statement with his early blocked shot on their tough post man."
  • "I am so proud of this team for overcoming adversity. They're still evolving and still growing, and I hope that we are able to continue to do so."
  • "Texas A&M-Commerce was ranked 22nd in the nation. This is a huge win for the growth of our program as well as for the ENMU community. I am so proud of our Greyhound Family."
  • "Maurice Coleman's free throws down the stretch were so clutch. I am proud of his mental focus."
