PORTALES, NM — Facing a 9-1 deficit in the seventh inning, homeruns from Kianna Zerr and
Ashley Lopez highlighted a six-run inning, which pulled the Eastern New Mexico University softball team (13-16; LSC 6-9) back within two runs. The Greyhounds actually managed to bring the game-tyinng run into the on-deck circle, but Texas Woman's (18-10; LSC 8-4) escaped Greyhound Softball Field with a 9-7 victory in Lone Star Conference action.
The Long Ball
- Zerr's homerun was her first since hitting one against Texas A&M-Commerce on March 12, 2016
- Lopez snapped her 14-game streak without a homer with her first since February 20, against New Mexico Highlands
- The Hounds now have 30 homers for the season, which ties for seventh (2010) in ENMU history
The Rally
- Eastern trailed 6-0 headed into the bottom of the sixth inning
- Samantha Brockman led off the Greyhound sixth with a single, before pinch runner Parker Smith stole second and third base
- Lopez delivered a two-out, RBI double to get the Hounds on the board
- TWU responded with a Cheyenne Mahy homer, followed by a triple and two singles to seize a 9-1 advantage in the top of the seventh
- Taylor Connor dropped a leadoff double down the left-field line in the ENMU seventh, and Zerr followed with a two-run blast over the left-field fence
- Precious Aguirre and Erikka Burke followed with base hits
- ENMU closed to within 9-4 on Jennifer McElroy's RBI double
- Lopez crushed a two-out, three-run homer to centerfield to pull the Hounds back within 9-7
- Brockman, Lopez and McElroy each had two hits
- Brockman extended her hitting streak to five games
- Lopez had a season-high four RBIs
- Mahy went five innings for TWU and allowed two earned runs
