Greyhound Baseball Honors Seniors in Regular Season Finale

PORTALES, NM — Alex DeLaCruz batted 3-for-4 and drew a walk as the Eastern New Mexico University baseball team (23-23; LSC 7-17) concluded the regular season. The Hounds rallied from an early 1-0 deficit, but UT Permian Basin 9-40; LSC 5-19) pulled away for a 10-5 win in the regular season finale at Greyhound Baseball Field.

With the series split, the Greyhounds advance to the Lone Star Conference tournament for the second time in program history and first time since 2009. The Hounds will enter the bracket as the #5 seed and play fourth seeded Angelo State at 6 p.m. MT, on Thursday. The tournament will be hosted by top seeded West Texas A&M.

Senior Day
Prior to the start of the game, the baseball program recognized its seniors: Tyler Barker, Alex DeLaCruz, Keenan Dodd, Julian Heredia, Jarron Hill, Jonathan Joy, Julian Lopez, Trevor McCall, Austin Paisar, Victor Persad, Taylor Ramirez, Levi Shandrew, Zach Shank, Gabriel Vargas, Endy Villalona, Garlind Webster, and Bryce Welborn.

In the Game
  • Bryce Welborn made his first start of the season and went 2.1 innings for the Hounds
  • The Falcons struck for a run in the top of the first inning, but ENMU tied the game on a solo homer from Julian Heredia in the second frame
  • The Falcons plated seven unanswered runs to seize an 8-1 lead
  • Levi Shandrew drove in two of Eastern's final four runs, but UTPB held on for the win
  • DeLaCruz extended his hit streak to 10 straight games
  • Villalona batted 2-for-4
  • Zach Shank made his first pitching appearance since March 4, 2016 and held the Falcons hitless for an inning
  • Shandrew batted 3-for-5
