LUBBOCK, TEXAS – The Eastern New Mexico men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw in their second Heartland Conference game of the season on Saturday afternoon against Lubbock Christian.
Defender
Joao Gabriel Andrade scored his first goal of the season in the 30
th off of an assist from
Robert Leonard to open up the scoring in the first half. Eastern New Mexico would hold that advantage for just over 20 minutes before Lubbock Christian scored in the 51
st minute to square the match up at 1-1.
Both squads had their chances to break the tie in the final minutes of the game, with Eastern forward
Aderi Arthur-Dede putting a shot on target in the 79
th minute that was saved by the Lubbock Christian keeper. The Chaps answered that attempt a few minutes later with a shot on target of their own with one second remaining in the game that was saved by Hound keeper
Ross Dalton.
Arthur-Dede finished the contest with a team-high eight shots, three of which were on target.
Arthur-Dede and
Lucas Vaz provided the shot attempts for the Hounds in the final five minutes of the first overtime period, but neither attempt found their mark. Arthur-Dede and
Jesus Garcia provided the final bit of excitement for the contest, with two shots in the final minute of action.
Vaz was second on the team with five shots as the Hounds and Chaps each totaled 18 shots in the contest.
Eastern New Mexico will be back in action on Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. inside Greyhound Stadium during which time they will take on Rogers State in Heartland Conference action.
