ODESSA, Texas – Eastern New Mexico became the program's all-time winningest team in men's soccer history with their 11
th win of the season after defeating UT Permian Basin by a 2-1 final on Thursday night.
The Hounds match the 2009 team with 11 wins on the season, but those wins back in 2009 have since been vacated due to NCAA infractions, giving this year's 2019 squad the most wins in program history. The Hounds used a goal in the 74
th minute by junior
Joe Conway to push ahead of the Falcons for the second time this season.
Conway's goal in the 74
th minute was set up by assists from
Craig Brand and
Alcides Duarte on a frigid night in Odessa, Texas for the Hound's final road contest on the season. The win moves the Greyhound's record to 11-5-1 on the season and increases their chances of being invited to the NCAA National Tournament after entering the weekend ranked 11
th in the Super Region Four standings.
Brand got things started in the first half for the Hounds off of an assist by
Julian Trapp in the 26
th minute to open up the scoreless match. The Hounds outshot the Falcons by a final total of 15-to-13, seven of which were on target.
Eastern New Mexico's fifth road win on the season sets the stage for a critical match-up on Saturday afternoon inside Greyhound Stadium as the Hounds will take on Lubbock Christian for the final match of the 2019 regular season. The Hounds will face a must-win situation if they have any chance to be invited to the national tournament.
UT Permian evened the match up in the 57
th minute before the Greyhounds picked up the pace and escaped Odessa with a win. Brand and Trapp each recorded three shots on goal while senior keeper
Ross Dalton made four saves in his 90 minutes of work in goal.
Kick-off for Saturday afternoon's match is set for noon against Lubbock Christian.
