Hounds Fall in Overtime At #18 West Texas A&M

CANYON, Texas – The Eastern New Mexico women's basketball team fell in overtime by a 67-60 final on the road against no. 18 West Texas A&M as part of the NCAA Division II National Showcase on Tuesday night.

The Hounds led for over 30 minutes of the contest in a game nationally-televised on ESPN3, but couldn't get a shot to fall on the final possession of the game with the scored tied at 54-54 to escape the First United Bank Center with their third consecutive victory on the Lady Buff's home court. Eastern put the first points on the board in overtime with free throws from senior Shelby Jones, but couldn't maintain that advantage for the entirety of the five-minute period as the Lady Buffs kept the Hounds from scoring throughout the final two minutes of action.

Eastern New Mexico battled valiantly throughout the contest, leading by as many as nine points early in the fourth quarter against the nationally-ranked Lady Buffs and held that advantage all the way down to just 12 seconds remaining in the ball game when West Texas A&M senior Lexy Hightower buried a three-point attempt to tie the game at 54-54.
Eastern's Chelsea Hunter fired up a prayer with five seconds remaining on the clock, but couldn't find the bottom of the net, sending the game into overtime. Each team continually responded to the opposition's run as the game progressed, with neither squad building a double-digit lead at any point throughout the contest.

Eastern New Mexico was led by junior Tilasha Okey, who recorded 11 points on just six shots, while seniors Shelby Jones and Treyanna Clay each totaled 10 points to establish three different players in double-digit scoring figures for Eastern New Mexico. The Hounds shot just 30.3 percent (20-of-66) from the field for the night.

Eastern New Mexico will take on Texas Woman's University on Saturday afternoon in Denton, Texas in their regular-season finale at 1 p.m.
