PORTALES, N.M. – The Eastern New Mexico softball team finished up the 2019 season with a 7-2 loss at the hands of Midwestern State on Saturday afternoon.
The Greyhounds finished the game with four total hits including RBI doubles from sophomore Kayla Marshall and senior Hanna Gary in the fourth and fifth innings. Eastern New Mexico finishes the season 12-30 (8-22 LSC) and in ninth place in the Lone Star Conference regular season standings.
Neither team managed to get on the scoreboard after the first two innings before Midwestern State broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Eastern narrowed the disadvantage to 4-2 with back-to-back one runs innings in the fourth and fifth thanks to the previously mentioned doubles from Marshall and Gary, but conceded three more runs in the Mustang's final two trips to the plate to draw the score to a 7-2 final.
Sophomore Iliana Mendoza had a quality day at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 and scoring a run.
