Portales, NM – Eastern New Mexico men's basketball team fell to Lubbock Christian 62-60 despite a late comeback effort.
The Hounds took the game down to the last couple seconds but were unable to come out on top. The Hounds calculated 30 rebounds for the night while
Deng Kuany once again led the team from the glass recording eight rebounds of his own. The Hounds shot 87.5 percent, the entire game, from the free-throw line, connecting on 14-16 free-throws.
Slow at the start for both teams, the Hounds and Chaps were neck and neck for majority of the first half contest. Lubbock Christian slowly pulled away taking a 27-20 led with under five minutes left to play and continued their led taking the Hounds into halftime ahead 35-27.
By the start of the second half the Hounds went on an 11 point run holding the Chaps to only three points tying the game 38-38.
Ibn Zaid assisted going on his own five point scoring run. From that moment on the Hounds breathed new life as they controlled the speed of the game.
At the two minute mark the Hounds trailed by one point. A foul called on the Greyhounds took the Chaps to the line where they swished in two free-throws regaining their led. Down by five with six seconds to go,
Devin Pullum banked a late three-pointer bringing the Hounds within two, but the buzzer rang just as the Chaps inbound the ball.
Jose Serrano led the Hounds scoring 17 points while
Devin Pullum followed as the second Hound of the night to hit double-digits with 14 points of his own.
Deng Kuany finished the night with eight rebounds, two steals, and four points.
Brandon Meadows recording six points, five rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots.
The Greyhounds stay at home for another LSC matchup as Angelo State comes to visit on Saturday, Jan. 18
th. Tip-off is set for 4:00 pm. During the halftime of the women's game Eastern New Mexico's new athletic director, Matt Billings will be introduced.
