PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico women's basketball could not overcome its 27.2 percent team field goal percentage as the Hounds fell to Angelo State 70-60 Saturday afternoon.
Senior
Jasmine Williams paced the way offensively and on the boards for the Green and Silver as she finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds while shooting seven for ten from the field. LSC double-double leader
Alivia Lewis recorded her sixth on the season after posting 12 points and ten rebounds to go along with five blocked shots. Williams is now tied for second in the conference with five double-doubles.
Sophomore point guard
Zamorye Cox turned in a solid all-around performance, adding 11 points and a game-high seven assists while also corralling five boards, swiping a pair of steals and blocking a shot.
Much of the Greyhounds success scoring the basketball was triggered by stingy hustle defense on the other side of the court. Eastern dominated the turnover battle, forcing 22 while committing just five. The High Plains squad converted those turnovers into 21 points and did not allow the Rambelles to score once of off their own possession miscues.
The Hounds were slightly out-rebounded 53-51, the third time this season ENMU has loss the battle on the boards. Eastern was able to haul in 28 offensive rebounds and scored 18 second chance points which helped keep the Hounds in the game.
The Green and Silver actually registered more made baskets, connecting on 25 of their 92 attempts while Angelo State shot 21 for 55. The real advantage came from the Rambelles ability to stretch the court and sink shots from beyond the arch. ASU knocked down ten three-pointers and converted at an efficient 38.2 percent clip. The Hounds were held to five for 23 from deep and struggled to connect on their long-range attempts with any consistency.
The Hounds will look to string some wins together next week as they prepare for a road trip to Texas A&M International on Thursday before facing Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday.
