Hounds Get Caught With Seconds On The Board Falling to Tarleton State

PORTALES, NM – Eastern New Mexico men's basketball held their own in a well matched conference game against Tarleton State, but were unable to come out victorious in the final seconds falling 73-70.

The Greyhounds and Texans put up a strong defensive end while also finding shooting ground offensively recording 14 ties during the contest. The Hounds finished with 42 rebounds to the Texan's 41 while both teams recorded four steals, six blocked shots and recorded less than 11 turnovers.  

Devin Pullum got the first half started knocking down one four three-pointers for the night in the first minutes of play. The Hounds were matched with their first tie of the night after Jose Serrano drove down the court for a fast break layup bringing the score 20-20. Isaiah Murphy put up two under the basket with 41 second on the clock sending both teams into the locker room tied 33-33.  

Jose Serrano brought the Hounds back to life after falling at the start of the second half with a three pointer from the left side while also drawing a foul on his next chance under the basket.
With his last three-pointer of the night, Devin Pullum tied up the contest 70-70 with less than a minute left to play. With overtime circling their minds, both teams went to work. Jose Serrano grabbed a defense rebound with nine seconds on the board push the ball down the court. Unable to connect, and now down by three, the Hounds took the ball out with one second left on the clock.

Junior Devin Pullum recorded his sixth game totaling 20 points or more with 24 for the night. Pullum hit four three-pointers assisting in his total, caught six rebounds, and dished out three assists. Jose Serrano finished the night with 17 points and matched Pullum with six rebounds and three assists. Isaiah Murphy took half the teams blocked shots with three of his own, a season high for the senior.

The Hounds will hit the road for more conference play as they head to Commerce, TX on Thursday Feb. 20 for a matchup against the Texas A&M-Commerce Lions.  The Hounds will continue on the road to Tyler, TX for a Saturday game against UT Tyler before returning home for their last home series of the season.
