PORTALES, NM – Eastern New Mexico men's basketball team battled one last time inside the Greyhound Arena falling to Midwestern State 68-67.
The Hounds pushed the Mustangs to 19 turnovers and recording over 30 rebounds, but were unable to control fouls giving up freebees. Two Hounds hit double digits as
Jose Serrano once again led the team with 13 points for the night.
Marvin Mapaga recorded 11 points, two rebounds and one blocked shot.
Yosnier Cobas took to the boards grabbing a team high ten rebounds for the night.
Starting out the contest, Eastern New Mexico gained a two point lead after a fast break dunk by senior
Darius Sawyer. The Hounds got hot from the three point line as
Devin Pullum and
Isaiah Murphy knocked down one each stretching the Greyhound led. MSU connected offensively closing in with two minutes to play in the first half.
Jose Serrano drew a foul under the basket putting the Greyhounds up by one but was unable to connect next time around as the Hounds took to the locker room down by one.
Trailing for the first part of the second half, the Greyhounds closed the gap pulling within two at the tne minute mark after
Jose Serrano connected from the three point line. The Hounds stayed glued to the Mustangs as they pushed a full court press.With a minute twenty left in play
Devin Pullum took brought the Hounds within four after a shot beyond the arc, his second of the game. Grabbing the defensive rebound,
Darius Sawyer sent it over to Pullum who drove to the basket drawing a foul and connecting on the three point play. Trailing by one with under a minute the Hounds once again pushed a full court press and while they stopped the Mustangs from connecting offensively the Hounds were unable to find the net closing the season.
