Volleyball Prepares for Two LSC Matches on Dig Pink/US Bank Family Weekend

PORTALES, N.M. - Eastern New Mexico volleyball returns to Greyhound Arena this weekend for two conference matchups. First, the Hounds will tend with University of Arkansas – Fort Smith (UAFS) on Friday, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m. Then, Eastern will tangle with Oklahoma Christian University Saturday, Oct. 16 at 12 p.m. The Greyhounds will welcome fans for US Bank Family Weekend and Dig Pink weekend, where the Hounds will wear pink jerseys in support of breast cancer awareness during Friday's game.
 

LAST TIME OUT

Eastern comes into the weekend following a difficult road trip to St. Edward's University and St. Mary's University. Eastern were beaten 3-1 on Friday, Oct. 8, against St. Edward's, and fell against St. Mary's 3-0 on Saturday, Oct. 9.
 

SCOUTING THE HOUNDS

The Hounds enter the weekend with a 1-14 record and a 1-6 conference record. Overall, ENMU posts 10.4 kills/per set (k/s), adding 9.5 assists/per set (a/s) to the offense. On the defensive side of the floor, ENMU is providing 12.1 digs/per set (d/s), while finding 2.0 blocks/per set (b/s) up front.
 
Jasmine Gannon is the Greyhounds leader in k/s with 2.75, while pacing the defense with 2.85 d/s. Mikaela Garvin stands next in k/s for the Hounds, with 2.11. Running the ENMU attack, Rae Sapiga is providing 4.36 a/s and Qitana Sapiga contributes 3.69 a/s. Holding down the defense, Daejia Rodriguez has 2.44 d/s, while Jordan O'Connor-Dempsey and Gracelyn Stubbs are finding 0.82 b/s and 0.80 b/s, respectively.

As a team, the Hounds are fifth in the Lone Star Conference (LSC) with 1.96 b/s, while sitting in second with 13.42 opponent digs per set.
 

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

University of Arkansas – Fort Smith

The Lady Lions come into the weekend after two wins from the past weekend. First, a sweep of Western New Mexico University (WNMU), then winning against University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB) the next day, 3-2. Currently, UAFS has an 8-9 record, with a 3-5 conference record.

UAFS are currently one of the best blocking teams in the LSC, averaging 2.11 b/s (3rd) and 1.45 b/s opponent blocks (1st). On offense, the Lady Lions have 11.3 k/s with 10.7 a/s, along with being the best LSC team from the service line (1.8 service aces per set). UAFS is finding 15.9 d/s on defense.

Reagan Macha leads the Lady Lions offense with 2.29 k/s, with Chole Price suppling the attack with 7.41 a/s. Defensively, Lexy Lewis is the team's leader in digs with 3.57 d/s. Up front, Chyra Thompson has 0.94 b/s, which is fourth in conference standings.

Oklahoma Christian

OC enter Saturday's contest with 6-11 record, while showing a 2-6 conference record. Recently, the Eagles split a weekend of action, dropping a contest to UTPB 3-1, then bouncing back the next day to beat WNMU 3-2.

The Eagles offense produces 11.8 k/s and 10.8 a/s. On defense, the team is posting 17.6 d/s, and finding 1.7 b/s at the net.

Individually, the Eagles offense is led by Caitlynne Hudgens with 2.37 k/s, with Yolaine Lopez adding 2.24 k/s. Spencer Plato is the team's leader in assists with 7.05 a/s. In the middle, Brylie Berrynman leads the team with 4.75 d/s (5th in LSC), with Kelsie Schiefelbein averaging 0.86 b/s.
