Football Hosts West Texas A&M In Annual Wagon Wheel Game

PORTALES, NM - The Eastern New Mexico football team hosts West Texas A&M University for the annual Wagon Wheel game on Saturday, October 16 at 6 p.m. in Greyhound Stadium. 

Fans are encouraged to get to the game early to enjoy tailgating, the Dawg Walk, and performances by the Greyhound Sound Marching Band leading up to the start of the contest. 

ENMU Athletics and La Casa are partnering to offer a COVID vaccination clinic prior to the game from 3–5 p.m. The vaccination clinic will be located in the median between the main parking lot and the tailgating area, and is free and open to the public. Both Moderna and Pfizer vaccinations will be available.

Those who receive a vaccination at the clinic will receive free admission to the Wagon Wheel game as well as a free hot dog from the concession stand inside the stadium.


HOUNDS' LAST TIME OUT

• The Greyhounds are coming off a thrilling 50-47 Green Chile Bowl win over Western New Mexico University on Saturday, October 9.
• Nathan Valencia finished the game with 329 passing yards and five touchdowns.
• Howard Russell led the ENMU rushing attack with 62 yards on the ground.
• Justin Manyweather led all receivers with 234 yards on 16 catches, both career highs, while also grabbing two touchdowns.
• On defense, Romell Jones and Cameron Santa Cruz led the team with five tackles each.
• Beau Burns and Jones had an interception during the game.
• Eastern put up 466 yards of total offense, setting a season high.
• The Hounds scored 50+ points in back to back games for the first time since 2015. Last time it happened, the Greyhounds scored 56 points against Texas A&M-Kingsville on Oct. 3, 2015, followed by 77 points against Bacone College on Oct. 10, 2015.
• With 97 total points, Saturday's game was the highest scoring Chile Bowl in series history, based on available records.


SCOUTING THE BUFFALOES

• West Texas A&M enters the weekend with a 3-3 overall record and 2-1 record in Lone Star Conference play.
• Last weekend, the Buffs recorded a 31-15 victory over Angelo State University.
• Nick Gerber finished the night going 8-of-18 thru the air with 104 yards and a touchdown while the Buffs rushed for 137 yards as a team highlighted by 66 from Khalil Harris and 33 from Jordan Johnson.
• Noah Bogardus led the receiving core with nine catches for 64 yards and a touchdown while also returning a blocked punt for a score.


AROUND THE LSC

• Midwestern State and UT Permian Basin remain atop the Lone Star Conference standings as the only unbeaten teams in league games. This week's schedule includes three LSC contests and one non-conference game.
• LSC football teams are 25-21 overall this season. The squads are 6-5 combined versus the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Northern Sun Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and Great Northwest Athletic Conference teams, which are also in NCAA Super Regional Four.
•The sixth round of LSC Football Players of the Week were announced earlier this week. Justin Manyweather of Eastern New Mexico was named Offensive Player of the Week, JT Cavender of West Texas A&M was named Defensive Player of the Week, and Gage Urias of West Texas A&M was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
