Football Closes Out Season At Texas A&M-Commerce On Saturday

PORTALES, NM - The Eastern New Mexico football team closes out the regular season with a 3 p.m. contest at Texas A&M University-Commerce on Saturday, November 13. 


HOUNDS' LAST TIME OUT

• The Greyhounds are coming off a 70-21 win over North American University on Saturday, November 6.
Nathan Valencia completed 19 of 24 passes on the afternoon for 362 yards and five touchdowns.
Howard Russell led the way on the ground with 131 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries.
Zachery Fields had 121 receiving yards during the contest. Bryzai White had 35 yards catches for three touchdowns, while Justin Manyweather caught two touchdowns.
Cooper Hamilton finished the game 10-for-10 on extra point kicks.
• Defensively, Beau Burns paced the team with eight tackles. He had 1.5 sacks for 12 yards of loss.
Cameron Santa Cruz added six tackles, while Rakeem Hatchett was close behind with five.


SCOUTING THE LIONS

• Texas A&M-Commerce is coming off a 30-3 loss to Angelo State on Saturday, November 6. The Lions enter the weekend with an overall record of 6-4 and 4-2 mark in conference play.
• Coming into the game, the Lions had not been shutout for 109 straight games, dating back to the last game of the 2011 season. Jake Viquez kicked in a 29-yard field goal with three minutes left in the game to keep the streak alive. The three points scored in Saturday's game were the lowest since 2012.
• Mitchell McGarry helped the Lions with an average of 42.4 yards per punt. He punted five times in the game. McGarry's longest punt was for 61 yards, which landed inside the 20-yard line.


AROUND THE LSC

• Midwestern State remains atop the Lone Star Conference standings at 5-1 in league play. The regular season concludes this week with three LSC games and one non-conference contest.
• LSC football teams are 40-36 overall this season. The squads are 7-6 combined versus the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Northern Sun Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and Great Northwest Athletic Conference teams, which are also in NCAA Super Regional Four.
•The 10th round of LSC Football Players of the Week were announced earlier this week. Jarrod Compton of West Texas A&M was named Offensive Player of the Week, JT Cavender of West Texas A&M was named Defensive Player of the Week, and Gilbert Garza of Texas A&M-Kingsville was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
