LUBBOCK, Texas – The Eastern New Mexico baseball team traveled to Lubbock Christian on Friday night for the first contest in a three-game series. The Greyhounds (6-19, 5-19 LSC) were handed an 8-0 loss by the Chaps (9-16, 8-14 LSC).
The first four innings were a defensive battle, as neither team was able to find a way to tally runs.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Chaps took a 2-0 lead after a two-RBI double from George Mendazona. Lubbock Christian would extend the advantage to 4-0 with one run in both the sixth and seventh innings.
Edgar Hernandez and Colin Gordon both notched RBI singles while Nolan Machibrod had a two-RBI double in the eighth frame to make it an 8-0 game in favor of the Chaps.
Lubbock Christian kept the Hounds off the board in the top of the ninth to secure the win.
Offensively, Eastern saw six hits from five different student-athletes. Leading the way was
Cole Luedeking who went 2-for-4 at the plate.
Braeton Matthews,
Camden Matthews,
Nicholas Tamez, and
Andres Quintana each had one hit.
Josh Lewis got the start on the mound and was also credited with the loss in six innings of work. He shifts to 0-4 overall on the season. Also seeing time on the hill during the contest were
Alex Kuhn and
Colson Faircloth.
The Greyhounds and Chaps meet again tomorrow (4/10) for a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
