Football Hits The Road For LSC Contest At Midwestern State

PORTALES, NM - The Eastern New Mexico football team hits the road for the first time this season for a 6 p.m. Lone Star Conference game against Midwestern State University on Saturday. 


HOUNDS' LAST TIME OUT

• The Greyhounds are coming off a 36-10 loss to Texas A&M University-Kingsville on Saturday, Sept. 18.
Justin Manyweather had a 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown during the contest. The return was the first for the program since return 2014 when D'Maujeric Tucker had a 100-yard kickoff return against Tarleton State.
• Eastern forced two fumbles throughout the contest. Mazin Richards and Tafari Gomillion were each credited with a forced fumble.
Beau Burns and Jahiree Pittman-Anderson paced the defense with 10 tackles each, while Cameron Santa Cruz was close behind with nine.
Kendrick Milford and Richards were each credited with 1.5 sacks. Rapi Sotoa had 1.0 sack and both Burns and Camron Pitcher Jr. had 0.5 sacks.
Nathan Valencia was 10-25 passing for 66 total yards.
Martavius Dill led the offense in receiving yards with 20 on four receptions.
Currie Thomason finished the afternoon with 58 rushing yards.


SCOUTING THE #15 MUSTANGS

• Midwestern State University is coming off a 35-17 win over #17 Angelo State University on Saturday, Sept. 18.
• Dillon Sterling-Cole threw for 387 yards and completed touchdown passes to five difference receivers for MSU.
• Ja'Juan Mason posted a career-high 116 yards on three receptions, while Kylan Harrison made four catches for 81 yards.
• Midwestern State moved up five spots to No. 15 in the latest American Football Coaches' Association Division II Poll. MSU matches its highest ranking since holding the No. 15 spot after starting the 2019 campaign with wins over Division I Northwestern State (La.) and Lindenwood (Mo.).


THE HOUNDS ON THE ROAD

• The Greyhounds head out on the road this week for the first time in 2021.
• Eastern New Mexico was 4-2 on the road in 2019
• Since 2015, the Hounds are 17-12 when playing in true road games and 1-3 in neutral site games in that span.


AROUND THE LSC

• Midwestern State is the only unbeaten Lone Star Conference team at 3-0 after three weeks of action. This week's schedule includes three league contests and two non-conference games.
• LSC football teams are 14-10 overall this season. The squads are 5-2 combined versus the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Northern Sun Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, and Great Northwest Athletic Conference teams, which are also in NCAA Super Regional Four.
•The third round of LSC Football Players of the Week were announced earlier this week. Dillon Sterling-Cole of Midwestern State was named Offensive Player of the Week, Jacob Clarkson of Texas A&M-Kingsville was named Defensive Player of the Week, and Fernando Piedra of Midwestern State was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
