PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico football is back in action Saturday afternoon hosting UT Permian Basin on Youth/Faith Day.
Before the Greyhounds and Falcons square off for a 2 p.m. kickoff, please take a look at the 4th & 1:
First Down – Recap from Monmouth:
The Greyhounds began their contest against Western Oregon with favorable field position, but the big storyline was the Wolves answer to ENMU's rushing attack as they came out with a 46-7 win. The game was Eastern's first loss to WOU.
Howard Russell scored the team's only touchdown on the day.
Second Down – We'Re WRatching:
The matchup to look out for Saturday is a battle between two of the best receivers in the Lone Star Conference. UTPB's MJ Link leads the league in touchdown receptions (7) while
Asa Wondeh is second in the LSC with five. Both Link and Wondeh have proven worthy of recognition, but now it is time for the two of them to go toe-to-toe and show their talents Saturday.
Third Down – Oh So Close:
The Falcons have lost two straight games by single digits and each of their last five contests have been decided by the same margin. Last week, UTPB fell to Midwestern State in a 24-23 thriller won by the Mustangs via a 42-yard field goal in the closing seconds. Earlier this season, they lost to TAMUK by three points and fell to West Texas A&M by one point.
Fourth Down – Air It Out:
UTPB is last among conference programs in pass defense allowing 266.1 yards per game. Starting quarterback,
Kason Martin has thrown for 270 yards or more three times this season. Receiving threats,
Tyree Cherry and
Bryzai White should be two names to watch out for as the Falcon's secondary will need to be on their toes as Martin has proven his ability to connect with multiple receivers per game.
& 1 – Toss For A Cause:
This weekend, the officials will toss a coin during pregame in recognition of longtime official in the Land of Enchantment, Colonel Cecil A. Lynn Jr. His daughter, an ENMU alumna, will be in attendance for the ceremonies. A scholarship has been created in his honor.
