PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Volleyball hold a winning record, 3-2, as they head to Denton, Texas for the Denton Volleyfest this weekend. The Hounds will meet Northwestern Oklahoma State, 9 a.m., and Ouachita Baptist, 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2. The Greyhounds will then face East Central and Missouri Southern State, at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively. All the games will be played at Kitty Magee Arena, on the campus of Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas.
SCHEDULE OUTLOOKÂ
The Hounds have a 28 games schedule ahead of them this season. Starting the first weekends with three tournaments and 12 games total. From then, ENMU head straight into conference play against Oklahoma Christian on Sept. 16, which will stand as the Hounds opening game at Greyhound Arena. ENMU will play at Greyhound Arena eight separate times, as part of the 16 Lone Star Conference schedule.
MEET THE SQUAD
ENMU Volleyball features 20 student-athletes, with 13 members returning from the 2021 season and seven newcomers. Of the new additions to the team, four will play their first collegiate volleyball and three come to Eastern as a transfer. Reigning LSC Rookie of the YearÂ
Mikaela Garvin is back with the program after collecting 213 kills and averaging 2.22 kills per set, and 2.55 points per game.Â
Gracelyn Stubbs comes back after leading the program with 85.0 blocks last season, andÂ
Qitana Sapiga provided 368 assists last season, second most on the team.
LAST TIME OUT
Recently, the Greyhounds picked up a 3-1 win over Wayland Baptist on Tuesday evening. The Hounds posted a season's best in both assist (48) and digs (68), while
Adriana Puni posted a career high nine kills. Before that, the Hounds went 2-2 at its weekend tournament, with wins over University of Southwest and Southeastern Oklahoma State, 3-0. Against USW, ENMU posted a single game record for hitting percentage at .431.
SERIES RECORDS
ENMU will face NWOK for the first time since 2013, when the Hounds came out 3-1 winners. The Tigers of Ouachita Baptist will face off for the first time in program history. East Central have never lost against ENMU with record of 0-2, having last played in 2009. Missouri Southern State will matchup with the Hounds for the first time in over a decade, having last played the Hounds in 2008. MSSU hold the all-time series lead 3-2.
