PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico football is back on the road facing a familiar foe as they will be visiting former Lone Star Conference member, Tarleton State.
The Texans moved away from the LSC when they transitioned to Division I membership in 2020 and now compete as a member of the FCS at the DI level.
The game will also be nationally broadcast on ESPN+ at 5 p.m. CT Saturday night. It will be the first time the Greyhound football team will be featured on the streaming service.
Before the Hounds take on Tarleton State, please take a look at the 4
th & 1:
First Down – Last Time Out
The Greyhounds lost their conference opener, 28-14, to Midwestern State. The Hounds finished with 378 yards on offense and snagged two interceptions against the Mustangs, but it was not enough to close out a home win over the reigning LSC regular season champs.
Second Down – Leading the LSC
The best passing offense in the Lone Star Conference lives in Portales. Junior quarterback,
Kason Martin is showcasing his talent in a big way over the first two games of the season as he has accumulated a conference high, four touchdown passes, 583 yards, and 46 completions. His favorite target over the first two contests is
Asa Wondeh who has stood out with 13 receptions, 311 yards (2
nd in the NCAA), and three touchdowns.
Third Down – Bulldozing Touchdowns
In two straight games,
Isaiah Tate has finished lengthy drives with touchdown runs near the goal line. His two scores already give him one more than he registered in nine games in 2021. He is the program's leading rusher with 124 yards and is one yard shy from marking 400 yards in his time with ENMU. He is tied for second on the team with
Cooper Hamilton with 12 points accounted for each.
Fourth Down – Own the Series
Although Tarleton State left DII membership, ENMU still holds an advantage in the overall series between the two programs. Eastern has won 14 of the 27 matchups, including 12-straight at one point in the series. The last win for the Hounds against the Texans came in Stephenville in 2017. Eastern also carries the lead in the matchup at 6-5 with games played at TSU.
& 1 – National Stage
As noted above, the game is slated to be televised on ESPN+. The matchup will kickoff at 5 p.m. MT at Memorial Stadium in Stephenville, Texas. The game will feature two former Division I FBS quarterback's in
Kason Martin (UNT) and Beau Allen (UK). Both gun slingers have accumulated for four touchdowns apiece.
