Serving It Up: Texas Woman's, St. Mary's, and St. Edward's

Greyhounds host three games in four days, along with annual alumni match on Saturday afternoon

PORTALES, N.M. – With Homecoming Weekend fast approaching, the Eastern New Mexico Volleyball program will host three games over the week. First, ENMU will face Texas Woman's University on Professor's Night, Wednesday, Sept. 28, at 6 p.m. Then, the Greyhounds will battle St. Mary's University on Friday, Sept. 30, beginning at 6 p.m. Finally, Eastern will take on St. Edward's University on Saturday, Oct. 1, with first serve scheduled for 12 p.m. The Greyhounds will play its annual Alumni Game immediately after the conclusion of Saturday's game.

LAST TIME OUT

ENMU faced a tough road test in its last outing, falling 3-0 in both matches against UT Tyler (Sept. 23) and DBU (Sept. 24).

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS

Currently, Eastern hold a record of 9-7 posting 11.6 kills per set (k/s) with a .178 hitting percentage. Offensively, Eastern are holding 10.5 assists per set (a/s) and 1.5 service aces per set (sa/s). On defense, the Greyhounds are collecting 15.9 digs per set (d/s) and 2.2 blocks per set (b/s).

Mikaela Garvin provides a team high 2.98 k/s, with Gracelyn Stubbs just behind with 2.13 k/s. Jaylynn Nihipali and Qitana Sapiga are the main setters for the program with 4.71 a/s and 3.89 a/s, respectively. Getsemani Carrasco leads the program in digs so far this season with 283 digs (4.64 d/s), while Stubbs holds a team best 54.0 total blocks this season.

Across the conference, the ENMU defense is holding teams to a conference low .130 hitting percentage and allowing just 10.40 k/s (2nd in LSC). The team also holds opponents to 14.50 d/s, currently 3rd best in the conference. Individually, Stubbs holds the third best hitting percentage in the conference at .328.

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS

The Pioneers enter the midweek clash after falling to UT Permain Basin over the weekend, 3-1. So far this season, TWU has compiled a record of 10-6 with a conference record of 1-3.

Texas Woman's is currently finding 12.4 k/s, with a .202 hitting percentage, and dishing out 11.4 a/s, On the other side of the ball, the Pioneers are collecting 16.3 d/s along with 2.2 b/s.

Kaia Saylor is an offensive standout, with 2.93 k/s, while Tori Woods adds 2.70 k/s to the offense. Lizzy Reed paces the offense with 6.85 a/s. Defensively, Yanely Pabon paces the team with 4.81 d/s. At the net, Kiya Yeoman leads the TWU blocking effort with 1.10 b/s (46.0 total blocks).

SCOUTING THE RATTLERS

St. Mary's currently sit at 6-9 on the season, holding a conference record of 2-2. In its last two outings, St.MU finished 1-1, falling to #18 West Texas A&M, 3-0, and beating Cameron University 3-0.

The Rattlers are currently providing 10.5 k/s, with a .150 hitting percentage, and passing out 9.6 a/s. On defense, the St.MU are finding 14.5 d/s along with 2.1 b/s.

The attack is led by Landri Wither, posting 2.82 k/s with Cali Nims providing 4.15 a/s. The Rattlers defense is highlighted by Alyssa Koehl with 3.75 d/s. Dallasstar Johnson is the leading blocker for the St. Mary's squad, contributing 1.04 b/s.

SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS

St. Edward's enter the weekend with a 5-10 season record, along with a LSC record of 1-3. Recently, the Hilltoppers picked up a win over Cameron, 3-1, while dropping a contest to #18 West Texas A&M, 3-0. SEU will face Lubbock Christian before facing the Greyhounds on Saturday. This will be the second meeting between the two teams this season, with Eastern taking the first contest 3-2.

Offensively, SEU is posting 11.4 k/s, with a .164 hitting percentage, and finding 10.5 a/s. Defensively, the Hilltoppers are providing 16.9 d/s along with 2.3 b/s.

Maya Smalls is finding 3.31 k/s, a team high, while Kylie Loquercio is just behind with 2.57 k/s. Esther Grussing runs the St. Edward's offense with 8.17 a/s. On defense, Sarah Konovodoff holds a team best 4.53 d/s, while Ajani Hodges posts 1.12 b/s for the Hilltoppers.
