BOLIVAR, Mo. – Eastern New Mexico battled to a 1-1 draw against Southwest Baptist Monday afternoon.
ENMU attempted four shots on net in the first half, but couldn't connect in the first 45 minutes of play.
Instead, the two programs battled up and down the pitch until SBU had a rare breakthrough moment to erase the scoreless match with a goal in the 74
th minute.
The Greyhounds rushed back to midfield ready to equalize and that's exactly what happened in the 79
th minute when a Bearcat defender tried to clear a long pass in the Hounds attacking third and it deflected off his head and into the net giving Eastern the equalizer.
The final moments of the game provided plenty of attacks on both ends.
Jo Martinetz and
Alexandre Meres both attempted shots in the 80
th minute and Martinetz had another chance in the 86
th, but could not get it past the SBU keeper.
Greyhound's goalie,
Paul Waschkau, made two incredible saves including one where he needed to stretch out his leg to deflect it from going into the net in the 88
th minute.
The last shot on goal for the Hounds came from
Pedro Menezes in the 88
th minutes, but the attempt was corralled by SBU.
Eastern will be back in action next week with a trip north to take on South Dakota Mines September 11
th and a match at Adams State on September 13
