Men's basketball falls in contest at LCU

LUBBOCK, Texas – Lubbock Christian beat Eastern New Mexico, 89-65, Thursday night on the road

Błażej Czerniewicz got the scoring started for the Hounds with an early basket and free-throw to convert the three-point play. Over the opening ten minutes ENMU held the lead for the majority of the time with LCU tying the contest early before Eastern had two different 4-0 runs.

The Chaps got back into the game with a 9-0 run and two 6-0 runs. At the half, LCU led 39-30.

Eastern did get the game within six points, 47-41, with 16:58 remaining in the matchup, but two-straight three's and a pair of free throws from Lubbock Christian broke the game in the Chaps favor.

Three Hounds scored in double figures on the night. Greg Johnson led the way with 15 points and Jahcoree Ealy hit seven free throws on his way to connecting for 12 points. Jose Murillo stayed steady in the paint with 11 (5-6 FG) of his own.

Grehlon Easter was the only player with multiple three's as he connected on two shots for eight total points. He had a pair of rebounds and assists.

"We had a lot of foul trouble," said head coach Brent Owen. "Tug (Greg Johnson) played 32 minutes. I'm pretty sure that's the most minutes he's played all year. I am proud of how he kept up his intensity even when he was tired."

ENMU will get a rematch with the Chaparrals on Feb. 11 at home.

"I am looking forward for another chance to play them in Greyhound Arena," said Owen after the game.

Next up, the Hounds are set for a trip to Canyon, Texas to take on West Texas A&M Saturday evening. The game will be streamed on the LSC Digital Network and available on KSEL Country 105.9 FM with live play-by-play from Doc Elder.
