Greyhounds begin a eight game home strech starting Friday against UT Permian Basin

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Volleyball will end a road stretch and start a home stand this week with three matches in Lone Star Conference play. First, ENMU will head to Midwestern State on Wednesday, Oct. 11, with the match beginning at 6:30 p.m. (MST). Then, the Greyhounds return home to face UT Permian Basin on Friday, Oct. 13, at 6 p.m. with the Greyhounds holding their Pink Out game against the Falcons. Eastern wraps up the weekend on Saturday, Oct. 14, when (RV) Angelo State comes to town, with the match starting at 2 p.m.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS

  • ENMU looks to end seven-match losing skid this week, holding an 8-12 overall record and a 0-7 LSC standing. In their last match, ENMU dropped a contest to St. Edward's, 3-0.
  • The Hounds offense has a hitting percentage of .158 this season, finding 11.6 kills per set (k/s) and 10.9 assists per set (a/s). Eastern are one of the top defensive units in the LSC, leading the conference in opponent hitting percentage (.142). Additionally, the Greyhounds 2.23 blocks per set (b/s) is 5th in the LSC while the teams 17.38 digs per set (d/s) is 4th in the conference.
  • Leading the conference in digs, Getsemani Carrasco averages 5.90 d/s with over 400 digs in 68 sets during 20 matches. Gracelyn Stubbs (1.07 b/s) and Mikaela Garvin (1.03 b/s) both have over 1.00 b/s, while Deziree Flowers has 0.95 b/s). Garvin paces the offense with 3.54 k/s (4th best in conference). Kayla Ison leads the team with 4.62 a/s, while Stubbs contributes to the offense 2.51 k/s and 4.50 a/s.

SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS

  • The Mustangs and the Greyhounds will meet for the second time this season, with ENMU taking the first meeting, 3-1, on Sept. 16 at Greyhound Arena. Currently, Midwestern State has a 3-14 record with 0-5 conference standing.
  • Midwestern State are second in the conference for digs, finding 18.98 digs per set. Additionally, MSU posts 11.5 k/s, 10.7 a/s, and 1.2 b/s.
  • Taygon Jones paces the effort for digs with 4.50 d/s and Alayna Guerrero adding 3.13 d/s. For blocks, Jaiden Wright leads the team with 33.0 total blocks (0.62 b/s). On offense, Riley Rabedeaux provides a team best 2.85 k/s, while Guerrero runs the MSU offense with 6.98 a/s.

SCOUTING THE FALCONS

  • UT Permian Basin currently sits at 12-5 overall this season, along with a 3-3 conference record. Recently, the Falcons toughed out a 3-2 victory over Western N.M. Prior to the match with Western N.M., UTPB dropped a four-set match with #5 West Texas A&M and beat Cameron in straight sets.
  • Like the Greyhounds, UT Permian Basin has emerged as one of the best defenses in the conference, leading the LSC in blocks with 2.38 b/s, while standing 5th for opponent hitting percentage (.154). The Falcons also find 11.7 k/s and 10.9 a/s on offense, while finding 15.6 digs per set.
  • April Egwu is the conference leader for blocks (1.27 b/s) with Chyra Thompson compiling 1.07 b/s, while Gabby Gregorski paces the squad with 4.32 d/s. On offense, Gloria Geurin has a team high 2.57 k/s, with Aaliyah Gray contributing 2.06 k/s. Devin Alcoser and Jenna Gray split the setting roles, averaging 4.67 a/s and 4.58 a/s, respectively.

SCOUTING THE RAMBELLES

  • Angelo State come into the weekend having received votes in every American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll this season. ASU have a record of 15-3, sporting just one defeat in conference play (5-1). ASU split its last weekend of action, falling to #5 West Texas A&M and beating Cameron.
  • The Rambelles are the top offensive team in the conference, holding a .254 hitting percentage (1st in LSC), 14.73 k/s (1st in LSC), 14.14 a/s (1st in LSC), and sit fourth for service aces at 1.83 services aces per set. On defense, Angelo State provides 16.5 digs per set and 1.5 blocks per set.
  • Hannah Kinnison sits in the top five in the conference for both hitting percentage (.362, 4th in LSC) and kills (3.95 k/s, 2nd in LSC). Laney Dale's 7.11 assists per set leads the team and is 4th in the LSC. The Rambelles defense is led by the 4.73 d/s of Caleigh Enax, while Marina Sanchez has a team best 36.0 total blocks this season.
