Serving It Up: Texas Woman's, St. Mary's, and St. Edward's

The Greyhounds play three games in four days on the road in Texas.

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Volleyball begins a compact three-match road schedule this week. ENMU begins on Wednesday, Oct. 4, traveling to Texas Woman's for a 5 p.m. (MST) match. Then, the Greyhounds journey to San Antonio, Texas to battle St. Mary's University on Friday, Oct. 6, at 5 p.m. (MST). Finally, Eastern battle St. Edward's on the road on Saturday, Oct. 7, playing at 1 p.m. (MST).

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS

  • ENMU hopes to snap a four-match losing skid this week, holding an 8-9 overall record and a 0-4 LSC standing. Last time out, ENMU fell in straight sets to UT Tyler and (RV) DBU.
  • The Hounds offense has a hitting percentage of .163 this season, finding 12.1 kills per set (k/s) and 11.4 assists per set (a/s). Eastern are one of the top defensive units in the LSC, leading the conference in opponent hitting percentage (.129). Additionally, the Greyhounds 2.25 blocks per set (b/s) and 17.66 digs per set (d/s) are both 4th in the LSC.
  • Mikaela Garvin leads the attack for ENMU with a .295 hitting percentage and 3.66 k/s (4th best in conference). Kayla Ison leads with 4.83 a/s, while Gracelyn Stubbs helps the offense with 2.64 k/s and 4.75 a/s. Leading the conference in digs, Getsemani Carrasco averages 6.03 d/s, with Stubbs (1.15 b/s, 5th best in the LSC) and Garvin (1.03 b/s) aiding the defense.

SCOUTING THE PIONEERS

  • The Pioneers are in the middle of a hot streak, winning eight of their last nine matches, with their last match being a 3-0 sweep of UT Permian Basin. Texas Woman's are 11-4 with a 3-1 LSC record heading into Wednesday's match.
  • TWU have emerged as one of the top offensive teams in the conference, landing in the top-five for hitting percentage (.243), kills per set (13.55), assists per set (12.63), and service aces per set (1.75). On the other side of the ball, Texas Woman's find 16.1 d/s and 1.8 b/s.
  • Cara Pool and Kady Hansen are both in the top five for hitting percentage in the conference, .386 and .369 respectively. Meanwhile, Tori Woods paces the program with 2.82 kills per set. Grace Reynolds posts 5.59 assists per set, while also being third in the LSC for service aces per set (0.41). Luna França is the defensive specialist with 4.30 digs per set, while Hansen provides 0.94 b/s.

SCOUTING THE RATTLERS

  • St. Mary's stand at 7-8 this season, with a 2-2 conference record. During last weeks action, the Rattlers snapped a five-game losing skid during a win over Cameron (3-1) but fell to #3 West Texas A&M in straight sets.
  • Statistically speaking, St. Mary's are suppling 12.0 k/s and 11.2 a/s while attacking. As a group, the Rattlers pick up 16.2 d/s and add 1.6 b/s on defense.
  • Landri Withers and Alicia Virthe both find over 2.00 k/s to lead the St.MU attack. Cali Nims is the main contributor with 6.52 a/s, with Alyssa Koehl leading the team in digs (4.35 d/s). Three different Rattlers have over 0.60 b/s.

SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS

  • The Hilltoppers and the Greyhounds will meet for the second time this season, with SEU taking the first meeting, 3-1, on Sept. 15 at Greyhound Arena. Currently, St. Edward's have a 6-10 record with 2-2 conference standing.
  • St. Edward's standout on defense, landing in 3rd in the LSC for digs per set (18.09 d/s) and 4th for opponent kills (11.36 k/s). In terms of scoring, the Hilltoppers find 11.4 k/s and 10.5 a/s. Additionally, St. Edward's post 1.8 b/s.
  • Leading the offense for SEU, Kelli Fording has 2.79 k/s and Landry Baughman adds 2.28 k/s. Jordan Chapman leads the group with 4.48 a/s, totaling 224 assists this season. Sarah Konovodoff is second in the conference with 5.50 d/s, leading the Hilltoppers, while Cora Young's 38.0 total blocks is a team high.
