Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Jose Montoya

Three players score career-high marks in win over Adams State in Skyhawk Classic

ENMU opens Skyhawk Classic with 92-82 victory

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico men's basketball beat Adams State on a neutral floor Friday night, 92-82.

"I thought Adams State was big-time in effort," said head coach Brent Owen after the game. "The big thing in the game was rebounding. We only had one offensive rebound at halftime and we managed to get nine in the second half."

Despite trailing by as much as ten points in the first half (26-16), ENMU climbed back to beat the Grizzlies.

Behind three players earning career-high scoring marks, the Greyhounds held their ground against the previously 2-0 opponent.

Wing Jahcoree Ealy held his ground on both ends of the floor as he scored 29 points and swatted three shot attempts. Sophomore Jose Murillo had arguably his best game for the "Green and Silver" with 22 points and seven rebounds going 11-for-13 from the floor. Fellow sophomore Błażej Czerniewicz hung 16 points for just the second time in his career.

"I think we did a good job offensive-wise," said Jose Murillo after the game. "I think Jahcoree (Ealy) did a good job in transition. I am proud of our team"

With just 2:38 remaining in the game, ENMU held a slim two-point edge. From there, Czerniewicz looked like the most dominant player on the floor as he sunk two three's and earned Eastern a double-digit lead with a one-handed slam dunk in transition.

The Greyhound faithful jumped to their feet and the game stayed dominantly in Eastern's favor for the final minute.

Eastern New Mexico shot 35-for-60 (58.3%) from the floor and outrebounded ASU, 38-26. ENMU's eight blocked shots are the most in the Brent Owen era and the most since February 2019.

"A lot of guys stepped up big and helped us win the game," said Owen. "We have to get ready for a rematch with No. 15 Fort Lewis tomorrow."

Eastern's game versus the Skyhawks is set to tip at 3 p.m. The Greyhounds are looking to avenge an 82-62 loss from a week ago.
