PORTALES, N.M. – Looking to take another game against Texas Woman's Wednesday afternoon, Eastern New Mexico took the diamond for the third matchup of the series. This time, the Pioneers came away with a 11-0 win in six innings.
"You're not going to win a ball game when we can't produce routine outs," said head coach
Amanda Fefel after the game. "We need to have a short fuse and battle."
TWU scored in all, but one inning as Eastern used four pitchers in the contest.
The Pioneers broke a four-game losing streak to the Greyhounds behind another outstanding performance from pitcher Alyssa LeBlanc. The transfer from Texas A&M Commerce was nearly perfect as she finished with a no-hitter and allowed just one walk. She bettered her number from a day prior as she finished with a baker's dozen strikeouts.
Marissa Rodriguez was the only Hound to reach base as she walked on four pitches to begin the second frame. However, LeBlanc made light work of the situation and struckout the next three ENMU hitters.
Texas Woman's got productivity at the plate from several players, including four Pioneers who recorded multihit games.
Kennedy Marlow (3), LeBlanc (3), Avery Boley (2), and Delaney Boley (2) finished with 10 of the programs 13 hits on the afternoon.
In the third inning, centerfielder
Azalea Martinez made a remarkable play to rob a three-run homer. The Pioneers could have gone up 6-0 on the play, but the catch kept the game at 4-0 as a runner crossed home on the sac-fly.
The race for a postseason berth in the Lone Star Conference tournament is heating up. The league sends ten of its 15 teams to the tourney and ENMU sits in that tenth spot after the weekend series with the Pioneers.
The slots for 9th-12th reads as follows:
9. St. Mary's (16-17 LSC - .485)
10. Eastern New Mexico (15-21 LSC - .417)
11. Texas Woman's (13-20 LSC - .394)
12. Texas A&M International (13-20 LSC - .394)
The Greyhounds head to Oklahoma Christian for a three-game series beginning Saturday with a doubleheader. The contests will be streamed on the Lone Star Conference Digital Network.
