OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma Christian softball took the getaway game against Eastern New Mexico, 4-0, Sunday afternoon.
In a matchup that saw the Greyhounds get a runner on base in four different innings, OC was able to pull-off the win over the Hounds.
ENMU began the contest with two straight singles by
Mikenzey Patterson and
Ashley Nickerson. The team proceed to load the bases with a one-out walk to
Azalea Martinez.
Despite the prime chance to score the game's first run, the next two batters were unable to bring the runners home.
The Hounds got another good start in the second inning.
Jokaira Paredes began the frame with a double to left center and advanced to third on a single from
Valeria Contreras.
Three outs later and the score remained locked at 0-0.
Oklahoma Christian scored two runs in both the second and third innings to take the 4-0 advantage.
Over the final four innings for ENMU, they only got one hit.
Emma Southerland allowed five hits and four runs over six innings of work. She moved to 6-6 on the season and threw 80 pitches in the contest.
"Emma (Southerland) threw quality innings today for us in the circle, but out defense was not able to make the routine outs in big innings," said head coach
Amanda Fefel after the game. "We need to be more mindful of shutting down a powerful offense when we can. OCU capitalized on our mistakes and it was hard to bounce back."
Eastern New Mexico will go on the road for an in-state matchup at New Mexico Highlands set for Wednesday. Additional information is available on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
