Serving It Up: 2023 LSC Preview

Greyhounds play four matches as part of a 10 match tournament at Greyhound Arena

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Volleyball hosts the 2023 LSC Preview this weekend, with ENMU playing in four of the 10 matches set to take place over the weekend. The competition starts on Thursday when ENMU face Cameron at 12 p.m., and return to the floor later that evening at 6 p.m. to face Western New Mexico. Next, the Greyhounds face St. Edward's on Friday, Sept. 15, beginning at 6 p.m. Finally, Eastern New Mexico will matchup with Midwestern State on Saturday, Sept. 16, at 4 p.m. serving as the final match of the tournament.

TUNE IN

  • In total 10 games will take place at Greyhound Arena, with five teams each playing four matches this weekend. The full schedule features four matches on Thursday, Sept. 14, three matches on Friday, Sept. 15, and three matches on Saturday, Sept. 16.
  • This weekend's games will be covered on the LSC Digital Network. The LSC Digital Network will now offer a single game pass for $15, a monthly pass for $30, and a yearly pass for $140.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS

  • Eastern come off a 3-1 weekend at the Dr. Aicinena "Iceman" Invitational. The Greyhounds earned sweeps over Sul Ross State, Minn.-Crookston, and Southwest (N.M), while taking a 3-1 defeat against UT Permian Basin. Gracelyn Stubbs and Getsemani Carrasco were both named to the All-Tournament team for their efforts over the weekend.
  • So far this season, the Greyhounds are finding 11.7 kills per set, along with 10.8 assists per set. Defensively, ENMU's 17.0 digs per set is 5th in the LSC and are holding opposing teams to a .110 hitting percentage (2nd best in LSC) and just 10.6 kills per set (3rd in LSC). At the net, ENMU's 2.2 blocks per set are 4th in the LSC.
  • Stubbs helps the offense with a team high 4.66 assist per set, while Kayla Ison provides 4.48 assist per set. Mikaela Garvin leads the program in kills (3.21 k/s), with Stubbs (2.62 k/s), and Halle Sanders (2.07 k/s) helping the offense. Carrasco paces the Greyhounds with 5.48 d/s (2nd best in LSC), while Stubbs 1.14 blocks per set are 5th in the LSC.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS

  • The Aggies enter the weekend at 2-6, must recently finishing 1-3 at the 2023 Tiger Classic hosted by Fort Hays. CU picked up a 3-0 victory over New Mexico Highlands, along with losses to Minnesota State-Mankato, Southern Nazarene, and Fort Hays State. Cameron is finding 9.7 kills per set, with 15.4 digs per set on defense. The Aggies are fifth in the LSC for service aces with 2.15 service aces per set.
  • Western New Mexico stand at 2-6 after their opening eight games of the season, picking up wins over West Alabama and Southeastern Oklahoma this past weekend. Offensively, WNMU is averaging 9.9 k/s with 8.9 a/s. Western New Mexico sport 15.7 d/s and provide 1.1 b/s.
  • Making the trip from Austin, Texas, St. Edward's hold a 1-7 record after going 0-4 at the very competitive Cougar Classic last weekend. Despite a 1-7 standing, St. Edward's are attacking with 10.6 kills per set and contributing 10.0 assists per set. The Hilltoppers are finding 18.9 digs per set, which leads the LSC in digs per sets. At the net, provide 1.8 blocks per set.
  • Midwestern State looks to snap a four-match losing streak, standing at 2-6 coming into the weekend. The Mustangs provide 11.0 k/s, adding 10.3 a/s on offense. On defense, MSU picks up 17.8 digs per set (3rd in the LSC), while finishing with 1.1 blocks per set.
