Greyhounds embrak on conference play in Oklahoma and Arkansas this weekend

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern Volleyball begins Lone Star Conference play this weekend on the road, traveling to two different states. First, ENMU travel to Oklahoma to face Oklahoma Christian on Friday, Sept. 22, with first serve scheduled for 5 p.m. (MST). Then, the Greyhounds continue the road trip, stopping at UAFS in Fort Smith, Ark. for a Saturday afternoon match, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m. (MST).

  • This weekend's games will be covered on the LSC Digital Network. The LSC Digital Network will now offer a single game pass for $15, a monthly pass for $30, and a yearly pass for $140.
  • ENMU starts the weekend in Oklahoma City, Okla., playing Friday night, then ENMU heads to Fort Smith, Ark., playing on Saturday afternoon.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS

  • The Greyhounds most recently posted a 3-0 sweep of Southwest (N.M), during a Monday night match, now holding an 8-5 record. Before that, Eastern finished 3-1 during the 2023 LSC Preview with wins over Cameron (3-0), Western New Mexico (3-1), and Midwestern State (3-1). Getsemani Carrasco finished the weekend with more than 7.0 digs per set, and a school record of 41 digs during the win over Midwestern State.
  • As a team, the Greyhounds are finding 12.4 kills per set, along with 11.5 assists per set. Defensively, the Greyhounds are both top five in the conference for blocks per set (2.35 b/s, 3rd) and digs per set (18.1 d/s, 4th). Additionally, the Greyhounds are the top team in opponent hitting percentage (.112)
  • Mikaela Garvin leads the team with 3.74 kills per set (5th in the LSC) and provides 4.60 points per set (2nd in the LSC). Gracelyn Stubbs aids the offense with 2.72 k/s and 4.85 assists per set, while Kayla Ison distributes a team high 4.94 a/s. At the net, three Greyhounds have over 1.0 blocks per set (Stubbs, 1.15 b/s, Garvin, 1.02 b/s, and Deziree Flowers, 1.00 b/s). Carrasco leads the Greyhounds and the conference with 6.15 d/s.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES

  • Oklahoma Christian start conference play with a 6-5 record after the opening 11 games. Recently, the Eagles went 0-3 at the LSC Preview dropping results to Texas Woman's (3-0), UT Permian Basin (3-2), and Lubbock Christian (3-2).
  • OC are one of the top serving teams in the LSC, sitting second with 1.88 service aces per set. The Eagles offense averages 12.3 k/s and 11.5 a/s. On defense, Oklahoma Christian is suppling 13.9 d/s and 2.2 b/s. The Eagles don't allow many kills, 10.98 opponent kills is 3rd in the LSC, while their opponent digs of 13.24 is the best in the conference.  
  • Giorgia Turri is the top hitter for the Eagles with 3.44 k/s, while Katy Geurin adds 2.90 k/s. Lauren McClure and Rainey Aven are the main setters with 6.19 a/s and 4.73 a/s, respectively. Brylie Berryman leads the defensive effort with 3.38 d/s, and Camryn McGough tops the charts in blocks with 1.10 b/s.

SCOUTING THE LIONS

  • UAFS has started well this season, standing at 8-3 after the opening three weekends. In their last stint of matches, the Lions finished 2-1 at the LSC Preview hosted by Texas A&M-Kingsville. UAFS picked up a win over St. Mary's (3-1) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (3-2), while falling to Angelo State (3-2).
  • So far this season, UAFS has been one of the top defensive teams with 19.0 d/s, standing second in the conference. At the net, the Lions are finding 1.8 b/s., while preventing opponent service aces (1.31 opponent service aces, 5th best in LSC). On offense, UAFS provide 12.7 k/s and 11.6 a/s.
  • The Lions have three individuals with over 2.00 k/s: Caelyn Gunn (3.12 k/s), Nyia Anderson (2.45 k/s), and Reagan Macha (2.31 k/s). Chloe Price is the team's leader in assists, 9.43 a/s (3rd best in LSC), while Paola Fragalle paces the team with 4.81 d/s. Hannah Watkins stands out at the net with 1.05 blocks per set.
