Volleyball Drops Road Clash With UAFS, 3-0

Gracelyn Stubbs picked up a double-double, 11 assists and 10 digs, their 9th of the season

FORT SMITH, Ark. – Eastern New Mexico Volleyball were beaten on Saturday afternoon, 3-0, against UAFS at Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center. The Greyhounds slip to 8-7 overall with a 0-2 conference standing. The Lions improved to 10-3 on the season, while remaining undefeated in conference play (2-0).
 
The Lions finished the match in straight sets over the Greyhounds (25-22, 26-24, and 25-16). The first and second sets were back and forth between the two programs. During the first set, UAFS built a lead as large as six, but the Greyhounds brought the score to 23-22 UAFS after five straight points. The home team gathered two consecutive points to win the opening frame.
 
UAFS built an eight-point lead to begin the second set, but ENMU went on a 9-1 streak to tie the set at 13-13. ENMU fought to take a 23-22 advantage late in the set, gaining its first lead of the set. The home team responded with a 4-1 stretch, taking the second stanza 26-24. In the final set, UAFS built a nine-point lead late in the set and held off the Greyhounds, 25-16.

NOTABLE STATS

  • On offense, Mikaela Garvin led all competitors with 14 kills, with Kali Nelson adding six kills for ENMU.
  • Kayla Ison led the way with 17 assists, while Gracelyn Stubbs contributed 11 assists.
  • Paving the way on defense, Getsemani Carrasco racked up 15 digs with Rylee Mapes and Stubbs picking up 10 digs.
  • Stubbs made their mark at the net with seven total blocks (two solos, five assists), with Garvin grabbing four block assists.
  • The Lions led the match for kills (37-33), assists (34-32), and digs (64-55). The Greyhounds and Lions each had eight blocks in the match.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Greyhounds traveled to play the Lions for the first time in Fort Smith, playing at the Gayle Kaundart Arena at the Stubblefield Center for the first time.
  • Stubbs completed their 9th double-double of the season with 11 assists and 10 digs.
  • This marks the last time ENMU will play UAFS as a conference opponent, with the Lions transitioning to the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) next season.
