Le Roux's Late Goal Gives Men's Soccer Conference Win Against Texas A&M International, 2-1

Nathan Le Roux scored the game-winning goal in the 85th minute

PORTALES, N.M. – A goal with just five minutes to play, set Eastern New Mexico Men's Soccer (3-3-4, 1-1-1 LSC) for their first conference win of the season in a 2-1 victory over Texas A&M International (2-6-2, 0-3-1 LSC) on Saturday evening at Steve Loy Family Foundation Stadium.

The Greyhounds started quickly from the first whistle, firing three shots in the opening three minutes with one going on target. Shortly after, the Dustdevils rattled the crossbar with a header from close range. Eastern continued to press for the opening goal, with Arthur Macri testing the goalkeeper with a driven shot.

Just before the half, Texas A&M International struck the crossbar again, then Eastern New Mexico were awarded a penalty with 18 seconds before halftime. Yahir Jimenez worked hard to win the ball up the field, then crossed to Alexandre Meres who was fouled as he attempted to shoot. Meres calmly placed the spot kick to the bottom left corner to give ENMU a 1-0 lead at the break.

In a contested final 45 minutes, the Dustdevils got on the board via an own goal in the 76th minute. A free kick into a dangerous area bounced off a Greyhound defender and trickled in the back of the net to even the score. However, the only shot on target in the second half was decisive as substitute Nathan Le Roux potted the game winning goal in the 85th minute. Loris Tsiatsipy played a long diagonal forward, bringing the Dustdevils out of the 18-yard box and mis-controlling the ball. Le Roux quickly pounced on the chance and scored into an empty net to secure a Greyhounds victory.
