LAREDO, Texas – Eastern New Mexico Baseball fell, 8-5, on Friday afternoon against Texas A&M International at Jorge Haynes Field. The Greyhounds slip to 2-3 overall on the season with the same conference record, while Texas A&M International stroke their first win in 2024 (1-5, 1-4).
Eastern got off to a good start, with
Cooper Hamilton hitting a home run in the first inning to get the Greyhounds on the board. Later, the Hounds benefited from a TAMIU error to score in the 2
nd inning and hold a 2-1 advantage after four full innings. From then, the Dustdevils scored six unanswered runs across the 5
th and 6
th inning to take a 7-2 lead.

The Greyhounds did not quit, scoring three runs in the eighth inning to cut the score to 7-5 TAMIU. After a
Landon Pyles walk,
Tucker Gideon homered to put two runs on the board. Then, Hamilton homered for the second time in the game to make a two-run contest. However, an insurance run in the 8
th inning cemented the win for TAMIU, 8-5, over the Greyhounds.
NOTABLE STATS
- ENMU was out hit 13-4 by the Dustdevils, with three of the Greyhounds base hits going as home runs.
- Hamilton, Gideon, and Daniel Pruitt represented the ENMU hits.
- Gavin Perry receives the loss, after going 4.1 innings while allowing three runs from six hits. Zach Raichel tossed 3.2 innings in relief, while Julian Lopez faced one batter.
- For the Dustdevils, Issac Ponce tossed seven innings allowing one run with eight strikeouts to earn the win. Mark Chaps came in for one inning of relief, while RJ Patrick tossed the final frame in a save.

"TAMIU did a good job of taking advantage of free bases and did not give many at away," said Head Baseball Coach Riley Price. "A lot of bleeders found holes and they came up with some big hits. Their starter made us earn everything we got, and we didn't make it difficult enough on him with two strikes," said Price. Way too many strikeouts looking today for us and that can't happen. The bats tried to get going late but they minimized enough to hod on for the win. We need to bounce back tomorrow," said Price.
