Cameron Withstands Late Run From Women's Basketball, 68-64

Deja Adrian dropped 25 points in the game against the Aggies

LAWTON, Okla. – In a back-and-forth contest, Eastern New Mexico Women's Basketball fell, 68-64, to Cameron on Saturday afternoon at Aggie Gym. ENMU drops to 8-14 on the season, while sporting a 4-12 Lone Star Conference record. The home Aggies improved to 9-14 overall while sitting at 7-10 in the conference standings.

Following an opening basket from Cameron, the Greyhounds went on a 9-0 streak to jump out in front of the Aggies. Deja Adrian started the scoring with a three-pointer, then Ishuana Hunter, Adrian, and Vanessa Oduah all connected on jumpers to lead 9-3. CU wen ton a scoring swing to close the first quarter, with the score tied at 15-15. Both teams turned up their defense for the second period, with baskets hard to come by for both teams. ENMU only had three field goals in the second frame, while Cameron only had two baskets in the quarter, 26-23 at halftime.
 
In a second half adjustment, the Aggies opened the third quarter on a 14-0 run after a 3:18 span to take a 37-26 lead. Ashley Shipley ended the scoring drought for ENMU with a three-pointer, but Cameron continued to attack the basket, to take a 52-41 lead after the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Eastern mounted a comeback midway through the period. Trailing by 11, Oduah scored five quick points and Adrian converted an and-1 basket to make it a one possession game (57-54). The Aggies returned their lead back to nine points, but ENMU brought the game to 66-64 CU with just nine seconds left. However, free throws sealed the game for the Aggies on Saturday afternoon.

NOTABLE STATS

  • The Greyhounds finished the game with a 42.9% field goal percentage (24-56), connecting on 41.2% of three-point attempts (7-17), and finished 9-12 at the foul line (75.0%). The opponents finished just a bit better then Eastern, shooting 43.1% from the field (25-58), 50.0% from behind the arc (8-16), and 10-14 from the foul line (10-14).
  • Cameron posted more steals in the game (11-7), while Eastern had the edge on the glass (29-28).
  • Adrian led the Greyhounds with 25 points in the game, finishing 8-17 from the field, connecting on a pair of three pointers, and hitting seven free throws. Oduah had an important role for Eastern with 16 points from the bench. Hunter helped on both ends on the floor with eight points and seven rebounds.
  • Alecia Whyte secured a team best eight rebounds, while Shipley posted a team best three assists. Adrian, Oduah, and White all had two steals in the game.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Adrian marked the game with over 20 points for the fourth time this season, the first time having back-to-back 20+ point games this season. 25 points is the 2nd highest point total for Adrian this season, only scoring more in the season opener with 27 points in a win over Fort Lewis (11/10).
  • The Greyhounds will reset before heading back on the road, as they travel to West Texas A&M to play the Lady Buffs on Thursday, Feb. 15. First tip from the First United Bank Center is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. (MST).
