Dustdevils Take Series Finale Against Baseball, 7-4; Series Finishes 2-2

Each teams win a pair of games during the four game series

LAREDO, Texas – Eastern New Mexico Baseball dropped the series finale with Texas A&M International, 7-4, on Sunday afternoon at Jorge Haynes Field. The Greyhounds shift to 4-4 overall with the same conference record, while the Dustdevils move to 2-7 with a 2-6 LSC standing.

The Greyhounds started the scoring in the first inning, with Daniel Pruitt doubling home Demetrio Archuleta. The Dustdevils jumped out in front over the Greyhounds in the third inning, taking advantage of walks to get on base.

With TAMIU leading 4-1 in the 6th inning, Eastern started to chip away at the Dustdevils lead. After Tucker Gideon and Archuleta singled to reach base, Cooper Hamilton brought home a run with a single. Two batters later, Willie Ponce scored a run on a fielder's choice to make the score 4-3 TAMIU. The Greyhounds could have done more damage, but Texas A&M International escaped a bases loaded jam.

Texas A&M International picked up three key insurance runs in the 7th inning, with an RBI single and a two-run homerun making the game 7-3 TAMIU. Eastern had a late comeback attempt in the top of the 9th, with Landon Pyles' RBI double bringing the tying run to the plate. However, the Dustdevils recorded the final two outs of the inning to take the series finale, 7-4.

FROM THE SOURCE

"A very disappointing way to end the weekend," said Head ENMU Baseball Coach Riley Price. "It doesn't get much uglier than that. We handed the game to them today in all facets," said Price. "When you give your opponent double-digit free bases, can't hold runners on defense, can't bunt runners over, and play into what they want you to do offensively, then you don't deserve to win. TAMIU beat us at our own game today and were tougher than we were," said Price. "We have to quickly reset going into this next weekend, because how we played today was most definitely not Greyhound Baseball".

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • Gideon set a season high for hits with three, while Hamilton had their second multi-hit game of the season, and Terilli had their first multi-hit game.
  • Eastern return home for a home series against Texas A&M-Kingsville, spanning Feb. 16-18. The series starts on Friday, Feb. 16, with a nine-inning contest beginning at 2 p.m. Next, the Greyhounds and Javelinas will play a seven-inning doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 17, starting at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. Then, the series finale between the two programs is set for Sunday, Feb. 18, with first pitch expected for 1 p.m.
