No. 1 West Texas A&M stays perfect in league play with win over Greyhounds

Turnovers and poor shooting prove to be flaws in road loss for ENMU

CANYON, Texas – On a night when Jahcoree Ealy led all scorers with 18 points, it was not enough to trip up No. 1 West Texas on the road. Instead, the LSC leader earned a 93-68 win over Eastern New Mexico.

"They were tougher than we were," said head coach Brent Owen after the game on the radio show. "That hasn't been our issue. We're usually the tougher team."

WT forced 14 turnovers and turned those into 11 points.

One of the most impactful pieces for the Buffs came on the defensive end as Ryland Holt swatted four ENMU shot attempts on the night. He became a major component in his team's win as he pulled down seven rebounds while adding 16 points on just nine shot attempts.

Eastern struggled from the floor throughout the entirety of the contest. The Hounds hit 26-of-69 (37.7%) from the field and only made 5-of-17 (29.4%) from deep range. Ealy had some early struggles percentage-wise as he converted on just 5-of-15. He typically connects at a high-rate, but tonight's game against WT proved to be a little different.

Four different players for ENMU missed at least five shots.

Ealy did provide a spark on the glass as he finished with ten rebounds, six on the offensive side. The team ended up corralling 18 total on the offensive end.

Greg Johnson put in 15 points for Eastern New Mexico with two drained shots from behind-the-arc.

Another key takeaway came with early foul trouble from Mario Whitley. The Saginaw, Michigan native was effective in his 16 minutes of time on the court, but most of his afternoon was spent on the bench. He finished with three points, five rebounds, and two steals.

The Greyhounds will now look to flip the script as they head into Lubbock to take on LCU. The game is set for Saturday afternoon.
