Eastern close out the 2023-24 campaign with a home-and-home series with Western New Mexico

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Women's Basketball close out the 2023-2024 season with a home-and-home series against Western New Mexico this weekend. ENMU plays their final home game on Thursday, Feb. 29, with a first tip set at 5 p.m. Then, the Greyhounds conclude the season on Saturday, Mar. 2nd, traveling to Silver City, N.M. to play Western New Mexico at 12 p.m. Senior day ceremonies will take place during halftime of the men's basketball game, scheduled for 7 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT

The Greyhounds played two exciting games in their last outing. First, Oklahoma Christian swiped a game from Eastern with a late basket and free throw with just one second left to play, 59-58. Deja Adrian led all scorers with 21 points in the game, while Ishuana Hunter finished with a double-double (14 points, 10 rebounds). Then, the Greyhounds grabbed a vital 56-54 win against UAFS, scoring with three seconds left in the game to get the win. ENMU finished the final three minutes of the game with a 10-3 streak, with Adrian scoring the go-ahead basket.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS

Eastern New Mexico enter the final week of the season with a 9-17 record, while holding a 5-15 conference record. ENMU's offense score 59.7 points per game (ppg) while allowing 63.8 ppg. The Greyhounds are shooting 39.1% from the floor, posting a 28.8% 3PT percentage, and while sporting a 73.6% free throw percentage. Eastern average 32.5 rebounds per game (rpg), while allowing just 32.7 rpg (3rd in LSC). On offense, the Greyhounds are distributing 9.8 assists per game (apg). Eastern's defense pokes away the 5th most steals in the LSC, 9.5 steals per game (spg), while posting 1.3 blocks per game (bpg).

Hunter leads the team averaging 14.4 ppg and 7.9 rpg, while Adrian leads the team in total points and total rebounds (365 points, 14.0 ppg, 132 rebounds, and 5.1 rpg). Jaz Salon runs point for the ENMU offense, providing 2.5 apg. Vanessa Oduah contributes in all areas, scoring 7.9 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 1.5 apg, and 1.5 spg. Alecia Whyte is coming off their best game of the season against UAFS, scoring 14 points with six rebounds.

SCOUTING THE MUSTANGS

Western New Mexico look to close out their season on a positive note, holding a 9-16 record with a 4-16 record in LSC play. WNMU ended an eight-game losing streak in their last game, beating Oklahoma Christian 72-66 on Saturday, Feb. 24. Prior to that, WNMU dropped a home game to UAFS on Feb. 22nd, 59-55.

The Mustangs are one of the top blocking teams in the conference, sporting 3.1 bpg, giving up 63.7 ppg. On offense, WNMU average 57.8 ppg, holding a 37.6% field goal percentage, 28.3% from deep, and 65.8% from the foul line. Western New Mexico passes out 10.5 apg, post 34.4 rpg, while grabbing 6.5 spg.

Sydney Wright is the only double-digit scorer for Western New Mexico, posting 11.0 ppg and a team high 2.5 apg. Diamond Moore controls the glass with a team best 6.1 rpg, while Eliza Jones has 1.1 bpg (5th in LSC) with 5.3 rbg. Additionally, the Mustangs have four other scorers averaging six points per game or better, Brooke Rodgers has a team best 1.2 spg on defense.
