Softball Falls After #2 West Texas A&M Rallies, 7-3

ENMU combined for nine hits during the game, finishing with three extra bases hits

CANYON, TEXAS – Home runs midway through the game, led #2 West Texas A&M past Eastern New Mexico Softball, 7-3, on Tuesday afternoon at Schaeffer Park. The Greyhounds drop to 15-12 overall, while holding an 8-11 LSC record. The Lady Buffs advance to 23-2 with a 15-1 conference record.
 
After a scoreless first inning, Eastern N.M. scored the first run with Samantha Gutierrez going long to dead center. The Greyhounds catcher worked a ten pitch at bat, taking the final pitch over the fence. The Greyhounds bats continued in the third inning, with Emma Southerland getting on with an infield single. Chanler Groves followed with a triple into the right field gap to bring Southerland home, then Mikenzey Patterson reached on a bunt single. Alondra Vasquez concluded the hitting streak with an RBI single to center.
 
 
Defensively, the Eastern worked around a handful of WT hits and turned a 5-3 double to end the third inning, 3-0 ENMU. West Texas A&M did break through in the 4th inning, using a two-out single to score its first run with a runner on second base. Then, a three-run home run put the Buffs ahead 4-3 after four innings.
 
The Lady Buffs continued their scoring in the 5th inning, hitting a 2-run home run and a solo home run to go ahead, 7-3. From there, both teams had runners reach base over the final two innings, but the Lady Buffs held on for a 7-3 win.
