LAWTON, OKLA. – Eastern New Mexico Softball dropped two road games against Cameron University on Saturday afternoon at McMahon Field. In game one, seven runs in the 5
th inning propelled the Aggies past ENMU, 11-6. During the second game, four runs in the 4
th innings sunk the Greyhounds as Cameron came away with a 7-5 win. ENMU falls to 14-8 on the season with a 7-7 conference record. The Aggies improve to 11-7, with a 8-6 LSC standing.
GAME ONE: CU 11, ENMU 6
Valeria Contreras helped ENMU start the scoring in the second inning, getting on base with a double. Two hits by pitches loaded the bases, allowing
Chanler Groves to single in a run. Then,
Mikenzey Patterson had a sacrifice fly to make the score 2-0 ENMU. During the 3
rd inning,
Emma Southerland brought home a run from a hit by pitch. However, the Aggies used a pair of 2-run home runs to jump in front of ENMU.

Taighen Whitzel brought the game level with a solo home run in the 4
th inning, then ENMU took the lead in the 5
th inning after back-to-back doubles from
Aylene Lucero and Contreras. Cameron used another big inning to get themselves ahead (5-4 ENMU). The Aggies scored seven runs from five hits in the 5th inning, taking an 11-5 advantage over ENMU. ENMU did rally in the 7
th inning, loading the bases with one out as
Cecy Jurado produced an RBI on a hit-by-pitch. The Aggies prevented any further damage to hold onto an 11-6 victory.
NOTABLE STATS
- The teams were close in hits, with Cameron posting nine hits, and ENMU had eight hits.
- Cameron hit three home runs, while ENMU had seven extra base hits. Whitzel finished 3-3 with two doubles and a home run, while Contreras recorded three doubles. Both Whitzel and Contreras scored twice.
- Emma Southerland got the loss, tossing 4.1 innings with six runs allowed. Jordan Rivera gave up five runs, while Ciara Loken tossed one scoreless inning.
- Tinley Schmidgall picked up the victory, with 3.2 innings pitched giving up three runs on six hits. Presleigh Payne earned a save getting the final two outs in the 7th inning. Stormee Reed started the game with 2.2 innings with three hits and three runs allowed.
GAME TWO: CU 7, ENMU 5
Each team produced a run in the 1
st inning, with
Samantha Gutierrez hitting an RBI double to score a run. The Aggies did the same in the first inning, with an RBI double tying the game at 1-1.
Alondra Vasquez homered to begin the third inning, while ENMU pushed across another run from an RBI single from Contreras (3-1 ENMU). In the bottom of the inning, a two-run home run tied the game at 3-3.

The Aggies made their move in the 4
th inning, loading the bases with two outs and hitting a grand slam to go up 7-4. Eastern did half the deficit in the 5
th inning, as Whitzel had a solo home run and Contreras produced an RBI single. Cameron held ENMU for the final two innings, taking a 7-5 win over ENMU.
NOTABLE STATS
- ENMU outhit the Aggies, 12-10, finishing with five extra base hits. Seven of the nine starters recorded a base hit.
- Gutierrez led the Greyhounds with three hits, including a pair of doubles. Whitzel and Contreras both had two hits, while Contreras had a pair of RBIs. Gutierrez and Alondra Vasquez both had two scored runs.
- Marissa Rodriguez allowed 10 hits and seven runs for ENMU during the loss.
- Jocelyn Bright tallied nine strikeouts in a winning effort, allowing 12 hits and five runs in a complete game.
