Baseball Scores 11 Unanswered Runs In 16-12 Comeback Victory over Oklahoma Christian

Willie Ponce hit a pair of home runs to total seven RBIs

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Eastern New Mexico Baseball's offense continued to build steam, as the Greyhounds scored 11 runs without a response during a 16-12 road win over Oklahoma Christian on Friday night at Dobson Field. Eastern shifts to 16-23 overall on the season, while sitting at 14-23 in conference action. Meanwhile, the Eagles drop to 7-32, while holding 7-30 LSC standing.

Both teams combined for 11 runs in the opening four innings, with each team hitting multiple home runs. Demetrio Archuleta started the long ball with a two-run home run, after Luciano Terilli walked to reach base. In the bottom of the frame, the Eagles hit back-to-back two-out home runs to tie the game at 2-2. During the second frame, Willie Ponce clubbed a three-run home run to restore the ENMU advantage, 5-2. Cooper Hamilton started the inning with a single, then Archuleta walked with two outs, setting up the Ponce blast. OC had a pair of 2-run home runs during the 2nd inning and the 4th inning, taking a 6-5 advantage.

The Eagles extended their lead to 12-5, following three runs during the 5th inning and the 6th inning. However, Eastern started to come back with six runs in the 7th inning. The six-run inning started with a one-out single from Tucker Gideon. Hamilton walked, then Landon Pyles singled home a run. After a walk loaded the bases, Archuleta grabbed an RBI with a walk. Then, Willie Ponce crushed their second home run of the game scoring four runs on the grand slam to make the game, 12-11 OC.

With only a walk allowed in the bottom of the 7th, ENMU took back the lead with four runs in the 8th frame. Jonathan Baileys and Beau Preston singled to reach base, then Hamilton brought Baileys to the plate with an RBI single to right field, 12-12. After a balk moved two runners into scoring position for ENMU, Pyles brought home the game leading run with a sacrifice fly. Terilli kept the runs coming with an RBI single, then scored after Archuleta reached on an error, 15-12 ENMU. After three straight outs in the bottom of the inning, Baileys provided an insurance home run in the 9th to confirm a 16-12 comeback victory.
