Softball Exits LSC Tournament In Quarterfinals, 4-3 vs (2) #3 UT Tyler

The Greyhounds battled back after trailing 4-1 to come within one run of the Patriots

CANYON, Texas – Eastern New Mexico Softball concluded their trip to the Lone Star Conference Tournament, falling to (2) #3 UT Tyler 4-3 on Thursday afternoon at Schaeffer Park. ENMU concludes the season with a 26-26 record, while the Patriots move on to the LSC Semifinals, holding a record of 47-7.

After a blank top of the first inning, the #3 Patriots plated three runs in the 1st inning with three hits. The Greyhounds responded with a run, as Samantha Gutierrez began the 2nd inning with a double. Following two outs, Cecy Jurado doubled down the left field line to get the Greyhounds on the board.
 

Both defenses locked down over the next two innings, but the Patriots resumed the scoring in the 4th inning. With a runner on second after a UTT stolen base, a single to left center driving home a run (4-1 UTT). The Greyhounds defense turned double plays in the 4th inning and 5th inning, to stay within touching distance.
 

Grace Rofii brought the game to life with a two-run home run in the six innings with two outs. Gutierrez reached on a walk, then Rofii hit a towering home run to left field to bring the score to 4-3 UTT. ENMU did put the tying run on base in the final inning, but the Patriots held on to take the 4-3 win.
 

NOTABLE STATS

  • The Patriots out hit the Greyhounds, 10-5. Eastern turned three double plays defensively.
  • Rofii paced the Greyhounds with two hits, including the two-run home. Gutierrez and Jurado both supplied a double, while Jurado supplied an RBI.
  • Jordan Rivera takes the loss, allowing three runs over 0.1 IP. Marissa Rodriguez tossed the remaining 5.2 innings, allowing one run.
  • Christin Haygood held the Greyhounds to three runs, giving up five hits with two walks and three strikeouts. Genesis Armendariz recorded the final out, via strikeout, to secure the win and pickup a save.
