KINGSVILLE, Texas – Eastern New Mexico Baseball (1-0, 1-0 LSC) began the 2025 season with an opening day victory over Texas A&M-Kingsville (0-1, 0-1 LSC), winning 7-3 on Friday afternoon at Nolan Ryan Field.
Roman Connolly took the headlines with a complete game performance on the hill, totaling 93 pitches, allowing eight hits with three runs (two earned), with three punchouts and no walks. The Greyhounds defense behind him turned a pair of double plays, with Connolly inducing 15 ground outs.
Jalen Freeman led ENMU's hitting effort (3-5, 2R), as seven different batters recorded a base knock in the game.
Demetrio Archuleta,
Anthony Cortese, and
Jordan Rodriguez all found doubles during the game, while
Luciano Terilli hit a solo home run.
Terilli gave the Greyhounds a great start with a solo home run in the first at bat of the game, then taking a 5-2 lead after four innings. Archuelta had an RBI double in the 3
rd, and Rodriguez supplied a 2-RBI double one inning later. Freeman and Gideon each produced RBI singles later in the contest, with Connolly using the run support to their advantage.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- The Greyhounds out-hit the Javelinas 10-8, accounting for four extra base hits. Eastern took four bags on the base paths, while reaching base on seven walks and four hit by pitches.
- Connolly stood alone on the hill for ENMU, tossing the full nine innings, while four arms took the Mounds for the Javelinas. Ethan Campos takes the loss, allowing four runs over three innings as the starting pitcher.
- Connolly, Cortese, Freeman, and Rodriguez all made their ENMU debut, with the Greyhounds capturing an opening day victory for the first time since 2022.
- Eastern New Mexico continues the weekend series with a doubleheader against the Javelinas, scheduled for 1 p.m. (MST) / 2 p.m. (CST) and 4 p.m. (MST)/ 5 p.m. (CST).
