SHAWNEE, Okla. - The Eastern New Mexico University women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought road contest to Oklahoma Baptist University, 93-85, Tuesday night at the Noble Complex in Shawnee.
The loss moves the Greyhounds to 1-2 on the season while Oklahoma Baptist improves to 2-1. The game featured a competitive back-and-forth battle with nine ties and 10 lead changes throughout the evening.
After trailing 24-21 at the end of the first quarter, the Greyhounds kept pace in the second frame and entered halftime with a 44-39 lead. OBU responded in the third quarter, outscoring the Hounds 23-30 and taking a 69-67 lead before pulled away in the final period with a 24-18 advantage to secure the victory, 93-85.
Shay Moseberry led the Greyhound attack with 14 points, including a 3-for-9 performance from beyond the arc. The transfer guard added three steals and two blocks in 22 minutes of action.
Aaliyah Smith provided a significant spark off the bench, contributing 12 points on an efficient 5-of-12 shooting.
Chloe Dallas and
Julieta Ceja also added 12 points each, with Dallas pulling down five rebounds and Ceja two.
Martrice Brooks rounded out the double-digit scorers for ENMU with 11 points, including 4-for-7 from the free-throw line, while adding five rebounds.
The Greyhounds showed their offensive versatility throughout the contest, scoring 36 points in the paint and adding 20 fast-break points. Eastern's bench was particularly productive, contributing 31 points to keep up with the Bison.
ENMU capitalized on Oklahoma Baptist mishaps, scoring 24 points off turnovers off 14 steals and adding 12 second-chance points. However, the Bison's 30-point third quarter proved too much to overcome despite the Hounds determined effort.
The Greyhounds will head to Wichita, Kan., to compete in the Newman Classic this coming Friday and Saturday. Eastern will take on nationally ranked Fort Hays State on Friday followed by host Newman on Saturday.
