Softball Outscores Opponents 31-1 in Pair of Mercy Rule Wins, 16-0 and 15-1

ENMU crushed four home runs over the two games, while the pitching staff allowed just seven hits over 10 innings.

LOS LUNAS, N.M. – Outscoring their opponents 31-1, Eastern New Mexico Softball (3-1) swept a pair of RMAC opponents as part of day two of the South-Central Region Challenge at Los Lunas Sports Complex. In the first game, ENMU beat in-state rival New Mexico Highlands (2-2), 16-0 (5 Inn.), then powered past Adams State (1-3), 15-1 (5 Inn.).

GAME ONE: ENMU 16, SFU 0 (5 Inn.)

Aylene Lucero led the bats from the lead-off position, sporting a double and a home run to finish with six RBIs. Christina Meneses and Valeria Contreras both provided a pair of hits, with the latter hitting a three-run home run as part of a four-rbi game. In the circle, Miranda Guillen tossed a complete game shutout, taking a perfect game into the 4th inning. Guillen racked seven strikeouts with one hit and one walk allowed.

Following an empty first frame, ENMU started scoring with three runs in the second inning, as Grace Rofii tripled to bring home two runs, and Madison Begaye brought Rofii home with a bunt-single. The Greyhounds opened the game with nine runs in the 3rd inning, highlighted by a 3-run homer run from Contreras. Later in the inning, Lucero had a 3-RBI double, while hitting a three-run homer in the 4th frame.

Alondra Vasquez scored three times, with four RBIs from a grand slam home run to lead the Greyhounds lineup. Lucero collected three hits during the game, while Ashley Burns had two hits and two RBIs. Marissa Rodriguez navigated three innings of work in the circle, while Cierra Smith closed out the game retiring the six batters they faced.

After the first three ENMU batters reached base to start the game, Vasquez crushed the second pitch they saw over the fence to quickly put ENMU ahead 4-0. As part of a seven run first inning, Burns brought home a pair of runs on a single, and Lucero doubled home a run. After Adams State responded with a run and ENMU picked one up in the 2nd inning, the Greyhounds put up another crooked number on the scoreboard with seven runs in the 4th. Meneses hit a towering solo home run to start the inning, Alexa Ayala and Emily Marsh each had 2-RBI singles, and Meneses came back up to produce an RBI double later in the inning, giving Eastern a 15-1 advantage.

NOTABLE STATS
