Baseball Falls In Series Opener With West Texas A&M, 13-3 (7 Inn.)

Adrien Martin and Jalen Freeman both finished with a team best two hits in the game

CANYON, Texas – Eastern New Mexico Baseball (5-4, 5-4 LSC) dropped the series opener with West Texas A&M (4-3, 2-3 LSC) after falling 13-3 (7 Inn.) on Friday afternoon at Wilder Park.

The Greyhounds mustered eight hits during the game, while the home Buffs doubled Eastern for hits with 16. Jalen Freeman and Adrien Martin each finished with a pair of hits, as four Greyhounds had a double in the game.

Eastern had four pitchers take the mound, with starter Roman Connolly tossing 3.2 innings with seven hits and five runs. Logan Kinter worked one inning, giving up six runs on four hits, while Jouthan Sierra (0.1 IP) and Chase Rozell (1.0 IP) finished out the game for ENMU.

The Buffs jumped out to a four-run lead after a solo home run in the first frame, followed by a sacrifice fly and two-run home run in the second inning. Eastern got on the board thanks to a two-out Martin double in the third inning, sending home Willie Ponce and Luciano Terilli. After scoring once in the 4th inning, West Texas A&M used a big seven run inning in the 5th to pull away from Eastern. The runs came in on six hits, including two solo home runs, a sacrifice fly, and four RBIs base hits. Trailing 12-2, Freeman singled home a run in the 7th to extend the game. Daniel Pruitt led off the inning with a double, then a single up the middle from Freeman scored the Greyhounds third run. However, WT scored in the bottom of the frame to earn a 13-3 victory over the Greyhounds.
