Softball Falls In Weekend Finale against MSU-Moorhead, 13-5 (6 Inn.)

The Greyhounds offense supplied 10 hits during the game

CANYON, Texas – A big 6th inning sank Eastern New Mexico Softball (7-3) against Minnesota State – Moorhead (5-6), falling 13-5 against the Dragons at Schaeffer Park on Sunday morning.

Minnesota State – Moorhead out hit the Greyhounds 16-10 during the game, picking up 10 hits over the final two innings. Both teams supplied three extra base hits, as the Greyhounds held a 4-2 edge on stolen bases. Skylar Hardin and Grace Rofii led ENMU with a pair of hits. Defensively, the Greyhounds committed six errors, while the Dragons had one error.

The Dragons picked up a run in each of the first two innings, with Eastern scoring their first run on a solo home run from Aylene Lucero. Eastern jumped in front during the 4th inning, taking a 5-2 lead. Rofii singled and Hardin doubled to get into scoring position, then Cierra Smith sliced a single into right field to score both runners. Later in the frame, Emily Marsh scored Smith on a groundout, then Valeria Contreras had an RBI single after Lucero walked and stole second. However, MSU – Moorhead began connecting at the plate, scoring one run in the 4th, two runs in the 5th, and eight runs in the 6th to win the game in six innings.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

  • Both Hardin and Rofii had a pair of hits, with Hardin supplying two doubles. Lucero scored twice, while stealing three bases and hitting a home run. Smith led the ENMU hitters with a pair of RBIs.
  • Smith started the game on the in the circle, going four innings during a no-decision. Miranda Guillen recorded a pair of outs, while Marissa Rodriguez is tagged for the loss in 0.1 innings, allowing four runs. Ciara Loken faced the final six batters, allowing four earned runs.
  • Lucero swiped a career-high three bases, the most in a game since Mikenzey Patterson did so against Fort Lewis in 2024 (2/4).
  • ENMU now dive into conference play, welcoming Texas A&M International for a two-game doubleheader on Friday, February 14, beginning at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
