SAN ANGELO, Texas – Eastern New Mexico Softball fell in a pair of games against #4 Angelo State on Sunday afternoon at Mayer Softball Field. Angelo State controlled the opening game, winning 10-1 in five innings, while a pitcher's duel went to Angelo State in the second game, 3-2, winning on a walk-off double.
GAME ONE: #4 ASU 10, ENMU 1 (5 Inn.)
Eastern started the game on the right foot, scoring a run in the opening inning. After
Alondra Vasquez walked with two outs,
Christina Meneses doubled left field to score the first run. However, the Rambelles put up four runs in the first inning to take a 4-1 lead. A three-run home run put Angelo State ahead, then an RBI triple later scored for the fourth run of the inning.
Both teams played solid defense over the next few innings, but the Rambelles opened the game in the 4
th inning with six runs. During the frame, ASU took advantage of five hits, including a home run and two doubles to go ahead 10-1. Angelo State got the final three outs to end the game via run-rule.
NOTABLE STATS
- Three different Greyhounds finished with a base hit (Vasquez, Meneses, and Marissa Rodriguez). Angelo State gathered 10 hits over the game, with five going for extra bases.
- Rodriguez started the game in the circle for the Greyhounds, taking the loss. The right-handed pitcher pitched 4.0 innings, registering eight hits and eight earned runs. Cierra Smith faced five batters, allowing a pair of runs.
- Cheyenne Ford gets the win, pitching four innings with five K's and one run allowed. Raegan Sucher tossed the final inning, retiring the final three batters in a row.
GAME TWO: #4 ASU 3, ENMU 2
Both teams struggled to get on base in the opening innings, but the Rambelles broke the score open with a run in the third inning. Back-to-back singles put a runner in scoring position, then another single with two outs gave ASU the lead.
However, Eastern turned the game in their favor with a pair of solo home runs. In the 5
th inning,
Grace Rofii hit solo shot to left field to tie the game at one a piece. One inning later, Vasquez crushed a home run with two outs, giving ENMU a 2-1 lead. Angelo State did reply with a solo home run of their own in the bottom of the inning, then went onto win the game in walk off fashion in the 7
th, 3-2.

NOTABLE STATS
- The Greyhounds outhit the Rambelles, 7-6, as Meilana Lopez led ENMU with a pair of singles. Both Rofii and Vasquez homered, while Meneses had a double.
- Miranda Guillen threw all 6.1 innings for the Greyhounds, allowing three runs on six hits, recording five strikeouts.
- Cheyenne Ford grabbed the win in relief, pitching the final 2.2 innings for the Rambelles, giving up one run with four strikeouts. Amelia Hatthorn started the game, allowing one run over 4.1 innings with three hits and three strikeouts.
The Greyhounds return to Greyhound Softball Field for their next game, facing Sul Ross State in a doubleheader on Friday, March 21. The first game of the series is expected at 2 p.m., with the second game set for 4 p.m.
