Baseball Homers Five Times In Win Over Sul Ross State, 17-12

Daniel Pruitt homered twice, with a grand slam, while Luciano Terilli (2) and Jalen Freeman (1) also had home runs

PORTALES, N.M. – Eastern New Mexico Baseball (15-12, 13-12 LSC) powered five home runs during a high scoring game with Sul Ross State (2-27, 2-27 LSC), winning 17-12 on Friday afternoon at Kokernot Field.

Despite getting out hit, 13-12, the Greyhounds came away with a 17-12 win, hitting five home runs and taking advantage of 11 walks. Six different Greyhounds finished with multiple hits, as Daniel Pruitt and Luciano Terilli each homered twice in the game. Jalen Freeman supplied a double and a home run, while Adrien Martin drew three walks. Pruitt picked up six RBIs during the game, while Terilli finished with four, and Demetrio Archuleta had three RBIs.

Four pitchers took the mound, as Demitrius DiMatteo earned the win in 1.2 scoreless relief innings. Roman Connolly started the game, allowing four runs on eight hits, while Jadon Rendon (1.2 IP, 3 H, 5 R) and Marc Rios (2.1 IP, 2 H, 3 R) finished the game on the mound for Eastern.

After the Lobos took the lead in the first inning with a run, the Greyhounds put up four runs in the 2nd frame. With the bases loaded and two outs, Kyle Kiernan drew a run home with a walk, then Archuleta cleared the bases with a 3-RBI double down the left field line. However, a pair of home runs for Sul Ross State (solo HR in 3rd, 2-run HR in 4th) tied the game at 4-4.

From then, ENMU's offense connected in the 4th inning with 10 runs in the single frame, hitting three home runs. After a leadoff walk, Pruitt restored the ENMU lead with a 2-run home run to deep left field. Jalen Freeman followed Pruitt, homering to left field to continue the long ball trend for the Greyhounds. Next, two walks and a passed ball put two runners in scoring position, with a ground out, then a single putting ENMU ahead 9-4. Dylan Shea joined the hitting parade with a bases loaded single to score one run, then Pruitt followed with a grand slam to dead-center to give the Greyhounds a 14-4 lead. ENMU brought home 10 runs in the inning on six hits with four walks and three home runs.

The scoring slowed down for a bit, as Sul Ross State plated two runs in the bottom of the 6th to start a mini rally. The Lobos supplied three runs in the 7th, with Sul Ross State now trailing 14-9 going into the top of the 8th. However, Terilli hit a solo homer in the 8th, and a two-run home run in the 9th to give ENMU a few insurance runs, as the Greyhounds claimed the series opener, 17-12.
