Edmondson Records Double-Double In LSC Quarterfinal Defeat Against (5) Angelo State, 71-61

Edmondson finished with a season high 19 points, along with 13 rebounds during the game

FRISCO, Texas – Eastern New Mexico Woman's Basketball (20-9) battled for 40 minutes, but came up just short against (5) Angelo State (18-11), 71-61, on Thursday evening at Comerica Center in the Lone Star Conference Tournament Quarterfinals.

Kaitlyn Edmondson had a career night for the Greyhounds, scoring 19 points and pulling down 13 rebounds from the bench in 24 minutes. The first year finished 7-12 from the field, while going 5-6 at the foul line, pulling down five offensive boards and eight defensive rebounds.

Julieta Ceja reached double-figure with 11 points, and Jayla Smith grabbed nine boards for Eastern. Both Victoria Barrera and Abbi Holder supplied seven points, while Holder contributed a team high four assists and three steals.

After Angelo State took a four-point lead into the locker room at halftime, Eastern responded to surge into the lead midway through the third quarter. A 9-0 run midway through the period jolted ENMU into a four-point lead, holding that advantage going into the 4th (50-46). Angelo State started the final period on an 8-0 run to take the lead, but ENMU cut the deficit to one with 3:43 to play, 58-57 ASU. From that point, Angelo State recorded a 9-0 stretch hitting seven of eight free throws in that time. The Rambelles shot four more free throws over the final minute to take a 71-61 victory over ENMU.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE

  • Eastern controlled the glass, out-rebounding the Rambelles 37-29, while ENMU's bench outscored ASU 26-10. Both teams scored 40 points in the paint, while the Greyhounds scored 12 points from second chances opportunities.
  • The Greyhounds finished shooting 40.0% from the floor (24-60), going 4-27 from deep (14.8%), and finding 9-10 attempts at the foul line. Angelo State found 22 baskets on 48 attempts (45.8%), going 5-15 from behind the arc (33.3%), and taking advantage of 27 free throw attempts (22-27, 81.5%).
